Serenity prayer for December 3.

Lord God, I do not want to be tempted to speak words that might hurt others. Sometimes, I get carried away by reactive emotions that make me say or do things that I later regret. O my God, give me the light of your Holy Spirit and let him guide me to act rightly. I want my lips to glorify you. Help me to make decisions that will straighten out my ways. In your name I commit my life. Through this daily readings, in your hands, Oh Lord, I place all my purposes and dreams to be fulfilled. Amen.

These are the daily readings for Thursday of the 1st week of Advent.

Readings for Thursday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Isaiah 26:1-6: "Trust in the Lord forever because the Lord is the Rock".

That day, this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; to guard us he has set wall and rampart about us. Open the gates! Let the upright nation come in, she, the faithful one whose mind is steadfast, who keeps the peace because she trusts in you. Trust in the Lord for ever, for the Lord is the everlasting Rock; he has brought low those who lived high up in the steep citadel; he brings it down, brings it down to the ground, flings it down in the dust: the feet of the lowly, the footsteps of the poor trample on it.

Daily Psalm for Thursday.

Psalm 117(118):1,8-9,19-21,25-27: "Blessed in the name of the Lord is he who comes." (R).

  • Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, for his love has no end. It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in men; it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in princes. (R).
  • Open to me the gates of holiness: I will enter and give thanks. This is the Lord´s own gate where the just may enter. I will thank you for you have answered and you are my Saviour. (R).
  • O Lord, grant us salvation; O Lord, grant success. Blessed in the name of the Lord is he who comes. We bless you from the house of the Lord; the Lord God is our light.

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

Catholic Daily Reading acclamation: "Alleluia, alleluia! Shout with a loud voice, joyful messenger to Jerusalem. Here is the Lord God coming with power. Alleluia!" (Daily readings for today extracted of Is 40:9-10.)

Daily Gospel for December 3. Matthew 7:21,24-27.

Daily readings Thursday, Gospel for December 3 (We must know how to build the house on the Rock of Christ.): At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "It is not those who say to me, "Lord, Lord," who will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the person who does the will of my Father in heaven. Therefore, everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a sensible man who built his house on rock. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and hurled themselves against that house, and it did not fall: it was founded on rock. But everyone who listens to these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a stupid man who built his house on sand. Rain came down, floods rose, gales blew and struck that house, and it fell; and what a fall it had!". (The catholic daily readings and the Holy Gospel, on this page, are from the Jerusalem Bible)

Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"Pope Francis: May we never lack the rock of God´s love"

In the daily Readings, Jesus says: "Whoever hears my words and puts them into practice will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock On the other hand, he who hears the words but does not make them his own, lets them pass by, that is, does not listen seriously and does not put them into practice, will be like the man who builds his house on the sand". And we know the result.

When Jesus puts the people on guard against the pseudo-prophets, he says: "By their fruits they will know them. And here, of their attitude: so many words, they speak, they do wonders, they do great things, but they do not have an open heart to listen to the word of God, they are afraid of the silence of the word of God and these are the pseudo Christians, the pseudo shepherds. It is true, they do good things, it is true, but they lack the rock.

They lack the rock of God´s love, the rock of God´s word. And without this rock they cannot prophesy, they cannot build: they pretend because in the end everything falls apart. They are the pseudo-shepherds, the worldly shepherds; even the shepherds or Christians who talk too much, are afraid of silence, perhaps they do too much. But they are not capable of listening, they do what they say, they do their thing, but not God´s.

Through daily reading, let us remember these three words, they are a sign: do, listen, speak. One who only speaks and does, is not a true prophet, is not a true Christian, and in the end everything will fall apart: he is not on the rock of God´s love, he is not firm as the rock.

One who knows how to listen and from listening does, with the strength of another´s word, not his own, that one remains firm. Even if he is a humble person, which does not seem important, but how many of these great ones are there in the Church.

How many great bishops, how many great priests, how many great faithful who know how to listen and to listen do. An example of our days is Mother Teresa of Calcutta who did not speak, and in the silence she knew how to listen and did so much! Neither she nor her work collapsed. The great ones know how to listen, and they listen because their trust and their strength is in the rock of the love of Jesus Christ. (Daily Readings reflection, Saint Martha, June 25, 2015).

Daily Prayer Thursday, for Gospel.

My dear Father, You have called me to hope, to keep faith in the midst of uncertainty. Today, I thank you for the life you have given me. At the same time I ask you to give me the grace to respond to that faith with a sincere heart. May my words be transformed into actions, may my desire to love you transcend barriers and be a springboard of hope for others. Give me a humble and passionate heart. I place myself in your hands, all that I have and what I am. Come Lord. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Each person is unique and unrepeatable. Let us renew our efforts so that people with disabilities are always welcome in the communities where they live". Pope Francis.

Purpose for daily Gospel.

In my daily prayer I will include a thanksgiving to God. I will ask for his protection and that he may cover me with the shield of faith at all times.
