Catholic Daily Readings for Tuesday, December 27, 2022.

Catholic Daily Readings Tuesday for the Holy Gospel, December 27, 2022. Meditation on the daily Gospel according to John 20:2-8. "The other disciple also went in, the one who had first come to the tomb; he saw and believed." Daily Prayer for your life to get serenity and inner peace. Message of Pope Francis for today: "To enter into the mystery of God, one must bend down, lower oneself".

Entrance Antiphon.

This is John, who reclined on the Lord’s breast at supper, the blessed Apostle, to whom celestial secrets were revealed and who spread the words of life through all the world

Collect Prayer.

O God, who through the blessed Apostle John have unlocked for us the secrets of your Word, grant, we pray, that we may grasp with proper understanding what he has so marvellously brought to our ears. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever

Serenity prayer for Tuesday.

Lord, you know that many times I lose my way because of my fears and insecurities. I fail to focus my attention on you. Sometimes I forget that I can count on the heavenly assistance of my soul´s friend: the guardian angel. Therefore, I ask you, angel of my life: cover with your love all those intentions that I keep in my heart. Cover me with your care and make the way easier. Amen

Readings for Tuesday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Catholic Reading from the Book of 1 John 1:1-4: "The Word, who is life - this is our subject".

Something which has existed since the beginning, that we have heard, and we have seen with our own eyes; that we have watched and touched with our hands: the Word, who is life – this is our subject. That life was made visible: we saw it, and we are giving our testimony, telling you of the eternal life which was with the Father and has been made visible to us. What we have seen and heard we are telling you so that you too may be in union with us, as we are in union with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. We are writing this to you to make our own joy complete.

Daily Psalm for Today.

Responsorial Psalm is taken from the Book of Psalm 97(96):1-2,5-6,11-12:

"Rejoice, you just, in the Lord" (R).

  • The Lord is king, let earth rejoice, let all the coastlands be glad. Cloud and darkness are his raiment; his throne, justice and right.

"Rejoice, you just, in the Lord" (R).

  • The mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The skies proclaim his justice; all peoples see his glory.

"Rejoice, you just, in the Lord" (R).

  • Light shines forth for the just, and joy for the upright of heart. Rejoice, you just, in the Lord; give glory to his holy name.

"Rejoice, you just, in the Lord" (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

Alleluia, alleluia! We praise you, O God, we acknowledge you to be the Lord. The glorious company of the apostles praise you, O Lord. Alleluia! (Daily readings for today, extracted of Te Deum)

Daily Gospel - John 20:2-8.

Readings for Tuesday, for the Holy Gospel of the day: "The other disciple also went in; he saw and believed"

On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved. "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb" she said: "and we don’t know where they have put him." So, Peter set out with the other disciple to go to the tomb. They ran together, but the other disciple, running faster than Peter, reached the tomb first; he bent down and saw the linen cloths lying on the ground, but did not go in. Simon Peter who was following now came up, went right into the tomb, saw the linen cloths on the ground, and also the cloth that had been over his head; this was not with the linen cloths, but rolled up in a place by itself. Then the other disciple who had reached the tomb first also went in; he saw, and he believed

Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"To enter into the mystery of God one must bend down, lower oneself". Pope Francis.

In the Gospel for today, we see that Peter and John, warned by the women, ran to the tomb and found it open and empty. Then, they approached and bent down to enter the tomb. To enter into the mystery, it is necessary to bow down, to lower oneself. Only those who lower themselves understand the glorification of Jesus and can follow him on his way.

The world proposes to impose itself at all costs, to compete, to assert itself. But Christians, by the grace of the dead and risen Christ, are the shoots of another humanity, in which we try to live at the service of others, not to be haughty, but available and respectful. This is not weakness, but authentic strength. Whoever carries in himself the power of God, of his love and his justice, does not need to use violence, but speaks and acts with the power of truth, beauty and love.... (Pope Francis´ Homily on today´s Gospel)

Daily Prayer for the Gospel.

Lord, I don´t want you to be just one more thing among the things I have to attend to. I want you to be first in my life before everything else, even before me. Pour out your grace and strength upon me to fulfill this purpose. Provide me with all your strength so that I may courageously let go of these bonds and move forward towards the project you have outlined for me. I trust in you Lord, I trust in your marvelous power that manages to banish doubts and attachments from my heart to follow you with all my strength. Amen. The Pope´s daily quotation.

The true originality today, the true revolution, is to rebel against the culture of the provisional, is to go beyond instinct and the instant, is to love for life and with our whole being. Pope Francis.
