Pope Francis has composed two prayers to Mary to be recited after the rosary to pray for the end of the COVID-19 Coronavirus

Pope Francis has asked all Catholics to make a special effort in the month of May to pray the rosary, knowing that in doing so they will join the faithful around the world in asking for Mary´s intercession to stop the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. The Pope has also added two prayers to be recited at the end of the Holy Rosary.

The Pope has also added two prayers to be recited at the end of the Holy Rosary. In a letter to all Catholics, published by the Vatican on April 25, Pope Francis has expressed the following:

"The month of May is a month which, by tradition, has been dedicated to the Virgin Mary and many Catholics already have the custom of praying the rosary at home during the month.

"The restrictions of the pandemic have made us appreciate this ´family´ aspect more, also from a spiritual point of view.

"Contemplating the face of Christ with the heart of Mary, our mother, will make us even more united as a spiritual family and will help us to overcome this time of trial.

"You can choose, depending on the situation, to pray it together or in a personal way, appreciating the good of both possibilities. But, in any case, there is a secret to doing so: simplicity; and it is easy to find, even on the Internet, good prayer schemes to follow".

Pope Francis wrote two prayers to Mary that can be recited at the end of the rosary, prayers that he said he would recite "in spiritual union with all the faithful.

Both prayers acknowledge Mary´s closeness to her son´s followers and ask for her protection and intercession, just as she interceded before Jesus on behalf of the newlyweds at Cana who had run out of wine for their wedding feast.

"We know that you will provide, as at Cana in Galilee, for joy and celebration to return after this time of trial," says one of the prayers.

Pope Francis´ prayers also include specific intentions for the sick, for those who care for them, for those who have died and those who are mourning for them, for scientists who are seeking cures and vaccines, and for government leaders who must find a way to protect their people.

Pope Francis has also guaranteed his prayers for all of us, God´s people, and said he will be praying "especially for those who suffer most.

As on many occasions, the Pope has also asked:

"Pray for me. I thank you and bless you from my heart".

Prayers of Pope Francis to be recited after the Rosary.

1. Prayer to Mary for the Rosary.

O Mary, you always shine on our path as a sign of salvation and hope.

To you we entrust ourselves, Health of the Sick, who at the foot of the cross were associated with the sorrow of Jesus, keeping your faith firm.

You, Salvation of the Roman people, know what we need and we are sure that you will grant it so that, as at Cana in Galilee, joy and celebration will return after this trial.

Help us, Mother of Divine Love, to conform ourselves to the will of the Father and to do what Jesus will tell us, He who took our suffering upon Himself and carried our sorrows to guide us through the cross, to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.

Under your protection we take refuge, Holy Mother of God, do not despise our pleas in our needs, but deliver us from every danger, O glorious and blessed Virgin.

2. Prayer to Mary for the Rosary.

"Under your protection we take refuge, Holy Mother of God.

In today´s dramatic situation, full of suffering and anguish which oppresses the whole world, we turn to you, Mother of God and our Mother, and seek refuge under your protection.

O Virgin Mary, turn to us your merciful eyes in this pandemic of the coronavirus, and console those who are confused and weep for the loss of their loved ones, sometimes buried in a way that hurts the soul. It sustains those who are distressed because, to avoid contagion, they cannot be near the sick. It instills confidence in those who live in fear of an uncertain future and the consequences on the economy and work.

Mother of God and our Mother, we implore the Father of mercy that this hard trial may end and that we may find again a horizon of hope and peace. As at Cana, intercede before your Divine Son, asking him to console the families of the sick and the victims, and to open their hearts to hope.

Protect the doctors, the nurses, the health workers, the volunteers who in this period of emergency fight on the front line and risk their lives to save others. Be with them in their heroic efforts and grant them strength, kindness and health.

Be with those who assist, day and night, the sick, and with the priests who, with pastoral care and evangelical commitment, try to help and support everyone.

Holy Virgin, enlighten the minds of men and women of science, so that they may find the right solutions and overcome this virus.

She assists the leaders of nations, so that they may act with wisdom, diligence and generosity, helping those who lack the necessities of life, planning far-reaching social and economic solutions and in a spirit of solidarity.

Holy Mary, touches consciences so that the large sums of money used in the increase and improvement of armaments are destined to promote adequate studies for the prevention of future similar catastrophes.

Loving Mother, increase in the world the sense of belonging to a single great family, becoming aware of the bond that unites us all, so that, in a fraternal and supportive spirit, we may come to the aid of the many forms of poverty and situations of misery. It encourages firmness in faith, perseverance in service and constancy in prayer.

O Mary, comfort of the afflicted, embrace all your troubled children, may God deliver us with his powerful hand from this terrible epidemic and may life resume its normal course with serenity.

We entrust ourselves to you, who shines on our path as a sign of salvation and hope. O most merciful, O most pious, O sweet Virgin Mary! Amen.

May this month of May we pray the Holy Rosary together with the prayers to Mary composed by Pope Francis asking God for the end of the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic.
