Readings for Saturday.

Daily readings for gospel - First Reading for daily Gospel: Catholic Reading from the book of Baruch 4:5-12,27-29: "He who brought disaster upon you will bring you back enduring joy."

Fear not, my people! Remember, Israel, You were sold to the nations not for your destruction; It was because you angered God that you were handed over to your foes. For you, provoked your Maker with sacrifices to demons, to no-gods; You forsook the Eternal God who nourished you, and you grieved Jerusalem who fostered you. She indeed saw coming upon you the anger of God; and she said: Hear, you neighbors of Zion! God has brought great mourning upon me, For I have seen the captivity that the Eternal God has brought upon my sons and daughters. With joy, I fostered them; but with mourning and lament, I let them go. Let no one gloat over me, a widow, bereft of many: For the sins of my children I am left desolate, because they turned from the law of God. Fear not, my children; call out to God! He who brought this upon you will remember you. As your hearts have been disposed to stray from God, turn now ten times the more to seek him; For he who has brought disaster upon you will, in saving you, bring you back enduring joy.

Daily Psalm for Saturday.

Responsorial Psalm is taken from the Book of Psalm 68(69),33-35.36-37: "The Lord listens to the poor." (R).

  • See, you lowly ones, and be glad; you who seek God, may your hearts revive! For the LORD hears the poor, and his own who are in bonds he spurns not. Let the heavens and the earth praise him, the seas and whatever moves in them!. (R).
  • For God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. They shall dwell in the land and own it, and the descendants of his servants shall inherit it, and those who love his name shall inhabit it. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia. If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Alleluia, alleluia" (Daily readings for today extracted of Psalm 95:8)

Daily Gospel - Matthew 18:1-5,10.

Catholic Daily readings for Saturday, Gospel for October 2 (Their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.): At that time, The disciples approached Jesus and said, "Who is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven?" He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said, "Amen, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will not enter the Kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the Kingdom of heaven. And whoever receives one child such as this in my name receives me. "See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven always look upon the face of my heavenly Father."

Catholic Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"We must be like children. The Guardian Angel will guide us". Pope Francis.

In the daily Readings, we note that, not by chance, in the Gospel there are some beautiful and strong words of Jesus about the little ones. This term "little ones" refers to all people who depend on the help of others, and especially children. For example, Jesus says: "Beware of despising one of these little ones, for I tell you that their angels are always beholding in heaven the face of my heavenly Father.

Therefore, children are in themselves a richness for humanity and also for the Church because they constantly refer us to the necessary condition for entering the kingdom of God: that of not considering ourselves self-sufficient, but in need of help, love and forgiveness. And we all need help, love and forgiveness.

Meditating on the Daily Readings, we appreciate that "children remind us of something else beautiful, they remind us that we are always children: even when we reach the age of adulthood, or old age, even if we become parents, even if we occupy a place of responsibility, underneath all this remains the identity of a child". We are all children. And this always brings us back to the fact that we have not given life to ourselves, but we have received it.

(...) Children carry their own way of seeing reality, with a trusting and pure gaze. The child has a spontaneous trust in his father and mother; and he has a natural trust in God, in Jesus, in the Virgin. At the same time, his inner look is pure, not yet contaminated by malice, duplicity, the incrustations of life that harden the heart.

We know that even children have their original sin, their selfishness, but they preserve an inner purity and simplicity. But children are not diplomatic: they say what they feel, they say what they see, directly. And many times they put their parents challenged, saying in front of other people: "I don´t like this because it is ugly". But children say what they see, they are not duplicitous people, they have not yet cultivated that science of duplicity that we adults have unfortunately learned.

Children, in their inner simplicity, also carry with them the capacity to receive and give tenderness? Children have the capacity to smile and to cry. Some, when I take them for a hug, smile; others see me dressed in white and think I am the doctor and that I am coming to vaccinate them, and they cry, but spontaneously. Children are like that: they smile and cry, two things that in us, the grown-ups, are often blocked, we are no longer capable. For all these reasons, Jesus invites his disciples to become like children because the kingdom of God belongs to those who are like children. (Daily Readings reflection, General Audience, 2015, March 18).

Daily Prayer for the Gospel.

Lord, from the moment I wake up, I want to keep alive the hope that you promise: "whoever trusts in you will not be disappointed". In your words, I find wisdom and strength to defeat fear. I ask you to help me to trust as a child does, to surrender myself with the same gentleness as they surrender themselves in their father´s arms. I know that, with the assistance of your Holy Guardian Angels, I will be able to do so, and I will be sure to attain true joy and inner peace. I trust in You, Lord, Amen. The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Evangelizers are like angels, like guardian angels, messengers of good who do not give immediate answers, but share the question of life, the same question that Jesus addressed to Mary calling her by name: Whom do you seek?," Pope Francis.
