Daily Gospel - Readings for august 10, 2020.

Daily prayer for august 10.

Lord, I know that many times I fear the changes in my life, but I am sure that you allow some things that are wrong with me to fall apart, to make room for new things that you have prepared, which are better things that will take their place. I trust my God that what you remove from my path will be taken up by the great blessings you have prepared for me. Amen.

Reading for monday. Daily gospel

2 Corinthians 9:6-10.

Do not forget: thin sowing means thin reaping; the more you sow, the more you reap. Each one should give what he has decided in his own mind, not grudgingly or because he is made to, for God loves a cheerful giver. And there is no limit to the blessings which God can send you, he will make sure that you will always have all you need for yourselves in every possible circumstance, and still have something to spare for all sorts of good works. As scripture says: He was free in almsgiving, and gave to the poor: his good deeds will never be forgotten. The one who provides seed for the sower and bread for food will provide you with all the seed you want and make the harvest of your good deeds a larger one.

Daily Psalm for monday.

Psalm 111(112):1-2,5-9.

"Happy the man who takes pity and lends." (R).

Happy the man who fears the Lord, who takes delight in all his commands. His sons will be powerful on earth; the children of the upright are blessed. (R).

The good man takes pity and lends, he conducts his affairs with honour. The just man will never waver: he will be remembered for ever. (R).

He has no fear of evil news; with a firm heart he trusts in the Lord. With a steadfast heart he will not fear; he will see the downfall of his foes. (R).

Open-handed, he gives to the poor; his justice stands firm for ever. His head will be raised in glory. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! I am the light of the world, says the Lord; anyone who follows me will have the light of life. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Jn 8:12)

Daily Gospel for august 10. John 12:24-26.

Daily Gospel reading for monday, august 10 (The grain of wheat must die in order to bear fruit): "At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "I tell you, most solemnly, unless a wheat grain falls on the ground and dies, it remains only a single grain; but if it dies, it yields a rich harvest. Anyone who loves his life loses it; anyone who hates his life in this world will keep it for the eternal life. If a man serves me, he must follow me, wherever I am, my servant will be there too. If anyone serves me, my Father will honour him." ".

Daily Gospel reflection by Benedict XVI.

"To be like the grain of wheat that bears much fruit".

In the reading of the daily Gospel, We see that Jesus uses a simple and suggestive image, that of the "grain of wheat" that fell into the earth and died to bear fruit.

In this image we find another aspect of the Cross of Christ: that of fruitfulness. The cross of Christ is fruitful. The death of Jesus, in fact, is an inexhaustible source of new life, because it carries within it the regenerating force of God´s love.

Immersed in this love through Baptism, Christians can become "grains of wheat" and bear much fruit if, like Jesus, they lose their own life for love of God and their brothers and sisters.

For this reason, to those who still today "want to see Jesus", to those who are in search of the face of God; to those who received a catechesis when they were little and then did not go any deeper and perhaps lost their faith; to so many who have not yet met Jesus personally, to all these people we can offer three things: the Gospel; the Crucifix and the poor but sincere witness of our faith.

  • The Gospel: there we can find Jesus, listen to him, know him.
  • The Crucifix: sign of the love of Jesus who gave himself for us.
  • The faith that is translated into simple gestures of fraternal charity.

But mainly in the coherence of life: between what we say and what we live, coherence between our faith and our life, between our words and our actions. Gospel, Crucifix and testimony. May Our Lady help us to bear these three things. (Daily Gospel reflection, Angelus, 22nd March 2015)

Daily Gospel Prayer for august 10.

I believe in You my God, I believe in your love that is growing within me, making good works germinate from my heart. I put everything in your hands and I let myself be led by your love so that you may fill my heart with peace and I may understand that You are the most important thing in life. I entrust my whole life, my thoughts and my actions to Your Holy Spirit and I go out to conquer hearts for You. Like St. Augustine I also want to say: "Breathe into me, O Holy Spirit, so that all my thoughts may be holy; act in me, O Holy Spirit, so that my deeds may also be holy; draw my heart, O Holy Spirit, so that I may love what is holy; strengthen me, O Holy Spirit, to defend what is holy; protect me then, O Holy Spirit, so that I may always be holy. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"I can´t imagine a Christian not being able to smile. Let us bear joyful witness to our faith" (Pope Francis)

Daily porpose.

I will pray an Our Father asking for those shears that destroy with their tongues, those who are immersed in murmuring. I will also watch my tongue and not be one of them.
