Daily Gospel - Readings for august 12, 2020.

Daily prayer for august 12.

My Guardian Angel, the guardian of my soul, I address you today with a special request: help me to remain in God´s grace. There are many occasions when I fail, and I do not feel like continuing; but a desire in my heart helps me to insist on trying again. I know it is You, my angel. I trust in your divine assistance. Amen.

Reading for wednesday. Daily gospel

Ezekiel 9:1-7,10:18-22.

As I, Ezekiel, listened, God shouted, ‘Come here, you scourges of the city, and bring your weapons of destruction.’ Immediately six men advanced from the upper north gate, each holding a deadly weapon. In the middle of them was a man in white, with a scribe’s ink horn in his belt. They came in and halted in front of the bronze altar. The glory of the God of Israel rose off the cherubs where it had been and went up to the threshold of the Temple. He called the man in white with a scribe’s ink horn in his belt and said, ‘Go all through the city, all through Jerusalem, and mark a cross on the foreheads of all who deplore and disapprove of all the filth practised in it.’ I heard him say to the others, ‘Follow him through the city, and strike. Show neither pity nor mercy; old men, young men, virgins, children, women, kill and exterminate them all. But do not touch anyone with a cross on his forehead. Begin at my sanctuary.’ So they began with the old men in front of the Temple. He said to them, ‘Defile the Temple; fill the courts with corpses, and go.’ They went out and hacked their way through the city. The glory of the Lord came out from the Temple threshold and paused over the cherubs. The cherubs spread their wings and rose from the ground to leave, and as I watched the wheels rose with them. They paused at the entrance to the east gate of the Temple of the Lord, and the glory of the God of Israel hovered over them. This was the creature that I had seen supporting the God of Israel beside the river Chebar, and I was now certain that these were cherubs. Each had four faces and four wings and what seemed to be human hands under their wings. Their faces were just as I had seen them beside the river Chebar. Each moved straight forward.

Daily Psalm for wednesday.

"Above the heavens is the glory of the Lord." (R).

Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord! May the name of the Lord be blessed both now and for evermore! (R).

From the rising of the sun to its setting praised be the name of the Lord! High above all nations is the Lord, above the heavens his glory. (R).

Who is like the Lord, our God, who has risen on high to his throne yet stoops from the heights to look down, to look down upon heaven and earth? (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

Daily Gospel for august 12. Matthew 18:15-20.

Daily Gospel reading for wednesday, august 12 (Fraternal correction and the power of prayer): "At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "If your brother does something wrong, go and have it out with him alone, between your two selves. If he listens to you, you have won back your brother. If he does not listen, take one or two others along with you: the evidence of two or three witnesses is required to sustain any charge. But if he refuses to listen to these, report it to the community; and if he refuses to listen to the community, treat him like a pagan or a tax collector." I tell you solemnly, whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven. "I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them." ".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"My tongue kills if I speak badly. Words also kill".

In the reading of the daily Gospel, Jesus teaches us that if my Christian brother commits a fault against me, I must use charity towards him, first of all, talk to him personally, explaining to him that what he has said or done is not good

What if the brother doesn´t listen to me? Jesus suggests a progressive intervention: first, talk to him again with two or three other people, so that he may be more aware of the mistake he has made; if, however, he does not accept the exhortation, it is necessary to tell the community; and if he does not listen to the community either, it is necessary to make him perceive the fracture and the distance that he himself has caused, making him less in communion with his brothers in the faith.

The stages of this journey indicate the effort that the Lord asks of his community to accompany those who make mistakes, so that they are not lost. It is above all necessary to avoid the clamour of gossip and the murmurings of the community, this is the first thing, to avoid this. "Go and correct it in private" (v.15).

The attitude is one of delicacy, prudence, humility, attention to the one who has committed a fault, avoiding that words can hurt and kill the brother. Because, you know, words also kill. When I speak badly. When I make an unjust criticism, when I pull out the hide of a brother with my tongue, this is to kill the reputation of the other.

Words also kill. Let´s pay attention to this. At the same time, this discretion has the purpose of not uselessly mortifying the sinner (...) The objective is to help the person realize what he has done, and that with his guilt he has offended not only one, but all.

But also to help us get rid of anger or resentment, which only do us harm: that bitterness of heart which brings anger and resentment and which leads us to insult and attack. It is very ugly to see an insult or an aggression coming out of a Christian´s mouth. It is ugly. Do you understand? No insults. Insulting is not Christian, understood? Insulting is not Christian.

In fact, before God we are all sinners and in need of forgiveness. All of us. Jesus, in fact, has told us not to judge. Fraternal correction is an aspect of love and communion that should reign in the Christian community.

It is a reciprocal service that we can and must give to one another. Correcting one´s brother is a service, and it is possible and effective only if each one recognizes himself as a sinner and in need of the Lord´s forgiveness. (Daily Gospel reflection, Angelus, 7 September 2014).

Daily Gospel Prayer for august 12.

God of love, throughout my personal history with you, you have known how to lead me on the right path. With your correction you have opened my eyes to compassion and true happiness. In the same way I must act with others. Come and give me a pure heart to love and serve. Just as that which can be harvested can be harvested, so I, if I can love, must be kind. Therefore, remove from me any rancor, any pain or wound from the past that prevents me from letting myself love and be kind. I throw at your feet every desire for revenge so that you may fill me with your all-healing charity. Give me a good and docile heart, clinging to your promise that if I ask the Father in your name, you will grant it to me. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Men and women of prayer carry flashes of light on their faces: because even on the darkest days the sun does not cease to illuminate them" (Pope Francis)

Daily porpose.

Be prudent and respectful to anyone who thinks differently from me, always offering a kind word full of hope, understanding that, love is patient, is kind and does not envy.
