Daily prayer for august 26.
Lord, I want to ask you now to send me a blessing of strength to overcome those selfish feelings that sometimes assail me and that can lead me to think only of my own well-being, without listening to the needs of others, give me the ability to act moved by your love. Amen.
Reading for wednesday. Daily gospel
First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of the 2 Thessalonians 3:6-10,16-18.
In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, we urge you, brothers, to keep away from any of the brothers who refuses to work or to live according to the tradition we passed on to you. You know how you are supposed to imitate us: now we were not idle when we were with you, nor did we ever have our meals at anyone’s table without paying for them; no, we worked night and day, slaving and straining, so as not to be a burden on any of you. This was not because we had no right to be, but in order to make ourselves an example for you to follow. We gave you a rule when we were with you: do not let anyone have any food if he refuses to do any work. May the Lord of peace himself give you peace all the time and in every way. The Lord be with you all. From me, PAUL, these greetings in my own handwriting, which is the mark of genuineness in every letter; this is my own writing. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.
Daily Psalm for wednesday.
Psalm 127(128):1-2,4-5.
"O blessed are those who fear the Lord." (R).
O blessed are those who fear the Lord and walk in his ways! By the labour of your hands you shall eat. You will be happy and prosper. (R).
Indeed thus shall be blessed the man who fears the Lord. May the Lord bless you from Zion all the days of your life! (R).
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia! Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Mt 4:4)
Daily Gospel for august 26. Matthew 23:27-32.
Daily Gospel reading for wednesday, august 26 (A very strong warning to the hypocritical scribes and Pharisees): "At that time, Jesus said: "Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who are like whitewashed tombs that look handsome on the outside, but inside are full of dead men´s bones and every kind of corruption. In the same way you appear to people from the outside like good honest men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.
"Alas for you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You who build the sepulchres of the prophets and decorate the tombs of holy men, saying, "We would never have joined in shedding the blood of the prophets, had we lived in our fathers´ day." So! Your own evidence tells against you! You are the sons of those who murdered the prophets! Very well then, finish off the work that your fathers began.".
Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.
"He who leads a double life is a corrupt, hypocritical".
In the reading of the daily Gospel, we see that the double life of a Christian does so much evil, so much harm. "But, I am a benefactor of the Church. I put my hand in my pocket and give to the Church." But with the other hand, he steals: from the State, from the poor, he steals. He is unjust. This is a double life. And this deserves, Jesus says it, I do not say it, to have a millstone put around his neck and be thrown into the sea. He doesn´t talk about forgiveness, here.
And this, because this person deceives, and where is the deception, there is no Spirit of God. This is the difference between sinner and corrupt. He who leads a double life is corrupt.
Different is he who sins and would like not to sin, but is weak and goes to the Lord and asks for forgiveness: the Lord wills it! He goes with him and is with him. And we must say that we are sinners, yes, all of us, here, uh, we all are. Corrupt.
The corrupt one is fixed in a state of sufficiency, he does not know what humility is. Jesus, in the daily Gospel, tells these corrupt ones:
"The beauty of being whited sepulchres, which look beautiful on the outside, but inside are full of dead bones and rot.
And a Christian who boasts of being a Christian, but does not live a Christian life, is one of these corrupt ones. () We all know someone who is in this situation, and how much evil they do to the Church! Corrupt Christians, corrupt priests, how much evil they do to the Church! For they do not live in the spirit of the Gospel, but in the spirit of worldliness.
(...) A varnished rottenness: this is the life of the corrupt. And, in this reading of the daily Gospel, Jesus did not simply call these people sinners, he said: hypocrites.
Today, let us ask the Holy Spirit for the grace to drive us away from all deception, let us ask for the grace to recognize ourselves as sinners: we are sinners. Sinners, yes. Corrupt, no. (Daily Gospel reflection. Saint Martha, November 11, 2013)
Daily Gospel Prayer for august 26.
Lord, Only You can guide my heart by enabling me with great talents to move forward. Help me to reflect the face of your compassion dwelling within me. I want to be consistent between what I say and what I do, to be a true Christian who faithfully fulfills your words. I invoke your Holy Spirit to help me think about what I say, to do what I set out to do, to act according to your will. On the day I meet you, may I not have to listen to those bitter words: white-washed tomb. I trust that you will assist me to do it well. Thank you for your love. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)
The Pope´s daily quotation.
"A particularly serious problem is the quality of water available to the poor" (Pope Francis)
Purpose for daily Gospel.
I will pray for those attitudes of mine that are not good for me and make me lose my identity as a Christian. Be silent and listen to the Holy Spirit.
