Daily prayer for August 28.
Lord of my life, at this moment I turn to your powerful Presence because I only want to thank you for forgiving me every time my rebelliousness has taken me away from You; but as a father who is generous in forgiveness, you do not hesitate to receive me when I come to you repentant. I entrust my plans to you. May your purposes be fulfilled in me. Thank you for your care and above all, because I know that you will help me to be happy on this day. Amen
Reading for Friday. Daily gospel
First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of the 1 Corinthians 1:17-25
Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the Good News, and not to preach that in the terms of philosophy in which the crucifixion of Christ cannot be expressed. The language of the cross may be illogical to those who are not on the way to salvation, but those of us who are on the way see it as God’s power to save. As scripture says: I shall destroy the wisdom of the wise and bring to nothing all the learning of the learned. Where are the philosophers now? Where are the scribes? Where are any of our thinkers today? Do you see now how God has shown up the foolishness of human wisdom? If it was God’s wisdom that human wisdom should not know God, it was because God wanted to save those who have faith through the foolishness of the message that we preach. And so, while the Jews demand miracles and the Greeks look for wisdom, here are we preaching a crucified Christ; to the Jews an obstacle that they cannot get over, to the pagans madness, but to those who have been called, whether they are Jews or Greeks, a Christ who is the power and the wisdom of God. For God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God´s weakness is stronger than human strength
Daily Psalm for Friday.
Psalm 32(33):1-2,4-5,10-11
"The Lord fills the earth with his love." (R).
Ring out your joy to the Lord, O you just; for praise is fitting for loyal hearts. Give thanks to the Lord upon the harp, with a ten-stringed lute sing him songs. (R).
For the word of the Lord is faithful and all his works to be trusted. The Lord loves justice and right and fills the earth with his love. (R).
He frustrates the designs of the nations, he defeats the plans of the peoples. His own designs shall stand for ever, the plans of his heart from age to age. (R).
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia! Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to stand with confidence before the Son of Man. Alleluia" (Cfr. Lk 21:36)
Daily Gospel for August 28. Matthew 25:1-13.
Daily Gospel reading for Friday, August 28 (Parable of the wise virgins. Preparing for the coming of the Lord): "At that time, Jesus told this parable to his disciples: "The kingdom of heaven will be like this: Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were sensible: the foolish ones did take their lamps, but they brought no oil, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, "The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet him." At this, all those bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps, and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, "Give us some of your oil: our lamps are going out." But they replied, "There may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves." They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. The other bridesmaids arrived later. "Lord, Lord," they said "open the door for us." But he replied, "I tell you solemnly, I do not know you." So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.".
Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.
"You must prepare your heart for the coming of the Lord".
In the daily Readings, we can interpret that, there is this immediate time between the first coming of Christ and the last, which is precisely the time we are living. It is in this context of the immediate time that the parable of the ten virgins is situated. It is about ten young women who wait for the coming of the Bridegroom, but he delays, and they fall asleep.
In the daily Gospel, we observe that, faced with the sudden announcement that the Bridegroom is coming, they all prepare to receive him. But while five of them, being wise, have oil to feed their lamps, the others, being foolish, stay with their lamps out because they have no oil. And while they look for him, the Bridegroom arrives and the foolish virgins find the door closed, which introduces them to the nuptial feast. They call insistently, but it is already too late; the Bridegroom answers: I do not know them.
The Bridegroom is the Lord and the time of waiting for his arrival is the time that he gives to all of us, with mercy and patience, before his final coming; it is a time of vigilance; a time when we must have the lamps of faith, hope and charity lit; a time to keep our hearts open to good, beauty and truth; a time to live according to God, for we know neither the day nor the hour of Christ´s return.
With the daily Gospel, what Jesus asks of us is that we be prepared to meet, prepared for an encounter, a beautiful encounter, the encounter with Jesus, which means knowing how to see the signs of his presence, having our faith alive, with prayer, with the Sacraments, being vigilant so as not to fall asleep, so as not to forget God.
The life of sleeping Christians is a sad life, it is not a happy life. The Christian must be happy, the joy of Jesus. Let us not fall asleep. (Daily Gospel reflection, General Audience, April 24, 2013)
Daily Gospel Prayer for August 28.
God of love, come and take away from me the anguish, that I may walk serenely before difficult situations that I face so that my soul does not get trapped in bad habits. There are many distractions in this life that can enrapture me with their outer radiance, but within they are ties to suffering. I know that I must keep the flame of my faith ever burning, with prayer and communion with your love, so that I may be covered with the armor of your power. May I from now on carry you in my heart, be attentive to your call and, with great prudence, always be ready when you knock at my door. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)
The Pope´s daily quotation.
"The challenge for Christian spouses: to be together, to learn to love each other forever and to find ways for love to grow" (Pope Francis)
Purpose for daily Gospel.
I will pray for a family member or friend asking that their problems will soon be solved, so that together we can find the answer to that: "How long will so many problems last", and trust God more.
