Reading for thursday. Daily gospel
Daniel 7:9-10,13-14.
As I watched: Thrones were set in place and one of great age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. A court was held and the books were opened. I gazed into the visions of the night. And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and men of all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire ever be destroyed.
Daily Psalm for thursday.
Psalm 144(145):8-9,15-18.
"The Lord is king, most high above all the earth." (R).
The Lord is king, let earth rejoice, let all the coastlands be glad. Cloud and darkness are his raiment; his throne, justice and right.
The mountains melt like wax before the Lord of all the earth. The skies proclaim his justice; all peoples see his glory.
For you indeed are the Lord most high above all the earth, exalted far above all spirits.
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia! This is my Son, the Beloved:he enjoys my favour.Listen to him. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Mt 17:5)
Daily Gospel for august 6. Matthew 17:1-9.
Daily Gospel reading for thursday, august 6 (Jesus is transfigured before his apostles): "At that time, Jesus took with him Peter and James and his brother John and led them up a high mountain where they could be alone. There in their presence he was transfigured: his face shone like the sun and his clothes became as white as the light. Suddenly Moses and Elijah appeared to them; they were talking with him. Then Peter spoke to Jesus. "Lord," he said "it is wonderful for us to be here; if you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah." He was still speaking when suddenly a bright cloud covered them with shadow, and from the cloud there came a voice which said, "This is my Son, the Beloved; he enjoys my favour. Listen to him." When they heard this the disciples fell on their faces overcome with fear. But Jesus came up and touched them. "Stand up," he said "do not be afraid." And when they raised their eyes they saw no one but only Jesus. As they came down from the mountain Jesus gave them this order, "Tell no one about the vision until the Son of Man has risen from the dead.".
Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.
"God´s love transfigures everything"
In the reading of the daily Gospel, Jesus makes the decision to show Peter, James and John an anticipation of his glory, that which he will have after the Resurrection, to confirm them in the faith and to encourage them to follow him on the way of trial, on the way of the Cross.
And so on a high mountain, in profound prayer, he is transfigured before them: his face and his whole person radiate a resplendent light. The three disciples are frightened, while a cloud envelops them and from above the voice of the Father resounds, as at the baptism in the Jordan: "This is my Son, the beloved; listen to him!
And Jesus is the Son made Servant, sent into the world to realize through the Cross the plan of salvation. To save us all! His full adherence to God´s will makes his humanity transparent to the glory of God, who is Love.
Thus Jesus is revealed as the perfect icon of the Father, the radiance of his glory. He is the fulfillment of revelation; therefore, alongside Him transfigured, appear Moses and Elijah, who represent the Law and the Prophets. This means that everything ends and begins in Jesus, in his Passion and in his Glory.
The message for the disciples and for us is this: "Let us listen to him! Listen to Jesus. He is the Savior: follow Him.
Listening to Christ, in fact, means taking on the logic of his Paschal Mystery, setting out with him to make one´s own existence a gift of love for others, in docile obedience to God´s will, with an attitude of detachment from worldly things and of inner freedom.
It is necessary to be ready to lose one´s life, giving it so that all men may be saved and find themselves in eternal happiness. Jesus´ way always leads to happiness.
Let us not forget: the way of Jesus always leads us to happiness. There will always be a cross in the middle, the trials, but in the end it always leads us to happiness. Jesus does not deceive us. He has promised us happiness and he will give it to us, if we follow his way
(...) In reality, Love is capable of transfiguring everything: Love transfigures everything! Do you believe in this? Do you believe? It seems to me that you do not believe so much because of what I hear. (Daily Gospel reflection, Angelus, March 1, 2015)
Daily Gospel Prayer for august 6.
My Lord, You are capable of transfiguring everything, of softening the hardest of hearts and of making a courageous warrior out of the one who makes himself small in front of others. I open my heart to you, I want to let myself be transformed by your presence. I give you all my will, move it and direct it according to your designs of love. Help me to find paths full of peace. Free me from all anguish and make me live confidently under your protection and shelter. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)
