Daily prayer for august 7.

My Lord, I come before You to ask You to please give me back the ability to stand in the midst of my weaknesses and move towards the achievement of those good purposes that will make Your Holy Name great. I trust in You, I trust that You will accompany me in my ways. Amen.

Reading for friday. Daily gospel

Nahum 2:1,3,3:1-3,6-7.

See, over the mountains the messenger hurries! "Peace!" he proclaims. Judah, celebrate your feasts, carry out your vows, for Belial will never pass through you again; he is utterly annihilated. Yes, the Lord is restoring the vineyard of Jacob and the vineyard of Israel. For the plunderers had plundered them, they had broken off their branches. Woe to the city soaked in blood, full of lies, stuffed with booty, whose plunderings know no end! The crack of the whip! The rumble of wheels! Galloping horse, jolting chariot, charging cavalry, flash of swords, gleam of spears, a mass of wounded, hosts of dead, countless corpses; they stumble over the dead. I am going to pelt you with filth, shame you, make you a public show. And all who look on you will turn their backs on you and say, "Nineveh is a ruin." Could anyone pity her? Where can I find anyone to comfort her?

Daily Psalm for friday.

Deuteronomy 32:35-36,39,41.

"It is the Lord who deals death and life." (R).

It is close, the day of their ruin; their doom comes at speed. For the Lord will see his people righted, he will take pity on his servants. (R).

See now that I, I am He, and beside me there is no other god. It is I who deal death and life; when I have struck it is I who heal. (R).

When I have whetted my flashing sword I will take up the cause of Right, I will give my foes as good again, I will repay those who hate me. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Happy those who are persecuted in the cause of right, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Mt 5:10)

Daily Gospel for august 7. Matthew 16:24-28.

Daily Gospel reading for friday, august 7 (To carry one´s own cross and follow Jesus): "At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "If anyone wants to be a follower of mine, let him renounce himself and take up his cross and follow me. For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; but anyone who loses his life for my sake will find it. What, then, will a man gain if he wins the whole world and ruins his life? Or what has a man to offer in exchange for his life? "For the Son of Man is going to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and, when he does, he will reward each one according to his behaviour. I tell you solemnly, there are some of these standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming with his kingdom.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"The cross, tiredness and pain, are a source of maturation"

In the reading of the daily Gospel, Jesus himself points out that this path goes against the tide to the point of making us into beings who question society with their lives, people who annoy.

Jesus reminds us how many people are persecuted and have been persecuted simply because they have fought for justice, because they have lived out their commitments to God and to others. If we do not want to immerse ourselves in a dark mediocrity, let us not pretend a comfortable life, for "whoever wishes to save his life will lose it". (Mt 16:25).

We cannot expect, in order to live the Gospel, that everything around us is favorable, because many times the ambitions of power and worldly interests play against us.

St. John Paul II said that "a society is alienated which, in its forms of social organization, of production and consumption, makes it more difficult to realize this donation and to form this inter-human solidarity".

In such an alienated society, trapped in a political, media, economic, cultural and even religious fabric that impedes authentic human and social development, it becomes difficult to live the beatitudes, even to the point of becoming something that is frowned upon, suspected, and ridiculed.

The cross, especially the fatigue and pain we endure in living the commandment of love and the way of justice, is a source of maturation and sanctification. Let us remember that when the New Testament speaks of the sufferings to be endured for the sake of the Gospel, it refers precisely to persecutions.

(...) Persecutions are not a reality of the past, because today too we suffer them, either in a bloody way, like so many contemporary martyrs, or in a more subtle way, through slander and falsehoods. Jesus says that there will be happiness when "you are slandered in any way for my sake" (Mt 5:11). Other times, it is a matter of mockery that tries to disfigure our faith and make us look ridiculous.

To accept every day the way of the Gospel even if it brings us problems, this is sanctity (Daily Gospel reflection. Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exsultate, 90 to 94)

Daily Gospel Prayer for august 7.

My Lord, I know that by proclaiming your mercy I will also be hated and cast aside, but it is a cross that I am willing to accept with joy knowing that my goal is to enjoy your promises in the Kingdom of Heaven. I trust that you have left me the strength in your words and your Spirit to faithfully follow in your footsteps. You are my Master. I love you, count on me. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Holy Spirit, give us the joy of the resurrection, the perennial youth of the heart!" (Pope Francis)
