Daily Gospel for April 12. Readings for today. Resurrection. Easter Sunday
Daily Gospel for April 12. Meditated by Pope Francis. John 20,1-9. Readings of the day. Easter Sunday. Resurrection of the Lord
Reading for today April 12. Easter Sunday. Resurrection of the Lord.
Reading of the Acts of the Apostles 10,34a.37-43. Peter proceeded to speak and said, "You know what has happened all over Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached, how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the holy Spirit and power. He went about doing good and healing all those oppressed by the devil, for God was with him. We are witnesses of all that he did both in the country of the Jews and (in) Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree. This man God raised (on) the third day and granted that he be visible, not to all the people, but to us, the witnesses chosen by God in advance, who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead. He commissioned us to preach to the people and testify that he is the one appointed by God as judge of the living and the dead. To him all the prophets bear witness, that everyone who believes in him will receive forgiveness of sins through his name.
Daily Psalm. Psalm 117,1-2,16-17,22-23.
(R). "This day was made by the Lord: we rejoice and are glad"
Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, for his mercy endures forever. Let the house of Israel say, "His mercy endures forever." (R).
"The right hand of the LORD is exalted; the right hand of the LORD has struck with power." I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the LORD. (R).
The stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone. By the LORD has this been done; it is wonderful in our eyes. (R).
Second Reading for today April 12. Letter to the Colossians 3,1-4.
Brothers and sisters: If you were raised with Christ, seek what is above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Think of what is above, not of what is on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ your life appears, then you too will appear with him in glory.
Daily Gospel Aclamation for April 12. Easter Sunday.
"Alleluia, alleluia! Christ, our passover, has been sacrificed: let us celebrate the feast then, in the Lord. Alleluia!" (Cfr. 1 Cor 5:7-8)
Daily Gospel for April 12. John 20:1-9.
Reading for daily Gospel - (Resurrection of the Lord. Easter - The Resurrection of our Lord Jesus) On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, "They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don´t know where they put him." So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the scripture that he had to rise from the dead.
Daily Gospel Commentaries by Pope Francis.
About Gospel of today - we see that God´s announcements are always surprises, our God is the God of surprises. And so, from the beginning of the history of salvation, from our father Abraham, he surprises you.
And the surprise is that which moves your heart, which touches you where you do not expect it. To put it in the language of young people, surprise is a "low blow" because you do not expect it.
As for the rush, the women who went running to say: "we have found this". God´s surprises set us on our way quickly, without waiting. And so they run, to see... and Peter and John run. The shepherds on Christmas night also run..."
It´s important to walk, to run, to see that surprise, that announcement. Today it also happens in our neighborhoods, in the villages, when something extraordinary happens, people run to see.
Therefore, go in a hurry. Surprises, good news, are always like that: in a hurry, and in the Gospel there is one who takes a little time, who does not want to take risks, but the Lord is good, he waits for him with love: he is Thomas.
But "what about me?", "Do I have an open heart to God´s surprises, am I able to go fast, or am I always with that little song: "tomorrow I will see, tomorrow, tomorrow?
What does the surprise say to me? John and Peter ran to the tomb. John, the Gospel says, believed. Peter also believed, but in his own way, with the faith mixed a little with the charge of conscience of having denied the Lord.
And I today, this Easter, I what, you what, I what? (Homily of today´s Gospel. Mass of Easter, April 1, 2018)
Pope´s quotes.
"Tonight we acquire a fundamental right: the right to hope. It is a new and living hope that comes from God. It is not mere optimism; it is a gift from heaven, which we could not have earned on our own." (04.11.2020 - @pontifex)
