Reading for friday. Daily gospel

Isaiah 38:1-6,21-22,7-8

Hezekiah fell ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came and said to him, "The Lord says this, "Put your affairs in order, for you are going to die, you will not live." Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and addressed this prayer to the Lord, "Ah, Lord, remember, I beg you, how I have behaved faithfully and with sincerity of heart in your presence and done what is right in your eyes." And Hezekiah shed many tears. Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah, "Go and say to Hezekiah, "The Lord, the God of David your ancestor, says this: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will cure you: in three days" time you shall go up to the Temple of the Lord. I will add fifteen years to your life. I will save you from the hands of the king of Assyria, I will protect this city." "Bring a fig poultice," Isaiah said, "apply it to the ulcer and he will recover." Hezekiah said, "What is the sign to tell me that I shall be going up to the Temple of the Lord?" "Here" Isaiah replied "is the sign from the Lord that he will do what he has said. Look, I shall make the shadow cast by the declining sun go back ten steps on the steps of Ahaz." And the sun went back the ten steps by which it had declined.

Daily Psalm for friday.

Psalm 101(102):13-21

"You have held back my life, O Lord, from the pit of doom." (R).

I said, "So I must go away, my life half spent, assigned to the world below for the rest of my years." (R).

I said, "No more shall I see the Lord in the land of the living, no more shall I look upon men within this world." (R).

"My home is pulled up and removed like a shepherd´s tent. Like a weaver you have rolled up my life, you cut it from the loom." (R).

"For you, Lord, my heart will live, you gave me back my spirit; you cured me, kept me alive, changed my sickness into health." (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Instruct me, Lord, in your way; on an even path lead me. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Psalm 26:11)

Daily Gospel for july 17. Matthew 12:1-8.

Daily Gospel reading for friday, july 17 (The revelation of the Gospel to the humble): "At that time, Jesus took a walk one sabbath day through the cornfields. His disciples were hungry and began to pick ears of corn and eat them. The Pharisees noticed it and said to him, "Look, your disciples are doing something that is forbidden on the sabbath." But he said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he and his followers were hungry, how he went into the house of God and how they ate the loaves of offering which neither he nor his followers were allowed to eat, but which were for the priests alone? Or again, have you not read in the Law that on the sabbath day the Temple priests break the sabbath without being blamed for it? Now here, I tell you, is something greater than the Temple. And if you had understood the meaning of the words: What I want is mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned the blameless. For the Son of Man is master of the sabbath."".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

In the reading of the daily Gospel, Jesus tells us in his word: "I am the Lord, the Lord also of the Sabbath".

Jesus is the center, he is the Lord. A definition that we do not understand well, because it is not easy to understand. The truth is that Jesus is the Lord insofar as He is the One who has the power, the glory, the one who has the victory. He is the only Lord.

[...] Jesus is the center that regenerates us and founds us in faith. On the other hand, the Pharisees put many commandments at the center of their religiosity. And Jesus says of them: They put burdens on the backs of the people. If Jesus is not at the center, there are other things.

Christians without Christ.

Today we find many Christians without Christ, without Jesus.

a) For example, those who have the illness of the Pharisees and are Christians who put their faith and their religiosity, their Christianity, in many commandments: Ah! I must do this, I must do that. Christians of attitudes: in other words, who do things because they have to do them, but in reality do not know why they do them... But where is Jesus? A commandment is valid if it comes from Jesus.

b) Christians without Christ there are many, like those who seek only devotions, many devotions, but Jesus is not there. And then you lack something, brother! You lack Jesus. If your devotions lead you to Jesus, then good. But if you stay there, then something is missing.

c) Then there is another group of Christians without Christ: those who seek things that are a little strange, a little special, those who go after private revelations, while Revelation was concluded with the New Testament.

These Christians have a desire to go to the spectacle of revelation, to hear new things. But "take the Gospel!"

d) Among Christians without Christ there are also those who are perfumed in their souls, but have no virtues because they do not have Jesus.

What then is the rule for being a Christian with Christ, and what is the sign that a person is a Christian with Christ? It is a very simple rule: only what brings you to Jesus is valid, and only what comes from Jesus is valid.

Jesus is the center, the Lord, as He Himself says. So, if something leads or comes from Jesus, go ahead; but if it does not come or does not lead to Jesus, then it is a little dangerous. It is a simple sign of the blind man from birth that the Gospel of John speaks of in the ninth chapter. The Gospel says that he bowed down before him to worship Jesus.

A man or woman who worships Jesus is a Christian with Jesus. But if you do not succeed in worshipping Jesus, you are missing something. (Daily Gospel reflection. Saint Martha, October 7, 2014)

Daily Gospel Prayer.

Lord Jesús, touch my heart, fill it with your strength, heal it, free it from the fear and harshness that prevent it from being the merciful help of my brothers. I count on your power to urge me to serve with love. May my mind and soul never want to be separated from the joy that comes from your most sacred heart. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Our Lady of Mount Carmel, our mother, help us to have innocent hands and a pure heart, not to lie or speak to the detriment of others. In this way we will be able to climb the mountain of the Lord and obtain his blessing, his justice, his salvation". (Pope Francis, 07.16.2020)
