Daily prayer for july 25.

Almighty and eternal God, who consecrated the Apostle James as a worthy and faithful servant of your reign, we pray that through his intercession you will grant that your Church be strengthened by his confession of faith and sustained by his protection. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Reading for saturday. Daily gospel

2 Corinthians 4:7-15.

We are only the earthenware jars that hold this treasure, to make it clear that such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us. We are in difficulties on all sides, but never cornered; we see no answer to our problems, but never despair; we have been persecuted, but never deserted; knocked down, but never killed; always, wherever we may be, we carry with us in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus, too, may always be seen in our body. Indeed, while we are still alive, we are consigned to our death every day, for the sake of Jesus, so that in our mortal flesh the life of Jesus, too, may be openly shown. So death is at work in us, but life in you. But as we have the same spirit of faith that is mentioned in scripture. I believed, and therefore I spoke, we too believe and therefore we too speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus to life will raise us with Jesus in our turn, and put us by his side and you with us. You see, all this is for your benefit, so that the more grace is multiplied among people, the more thanksgiving there will be, to the glory of God.

Daily Psalm for saturday.

Psalm 125(126):1-6.

"Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap." (R).

When the Lord delivered Zion from bondage, it seemed like a dream. Then was our mouth filled with laughter, on our lips there were songs. (R).

The heathens themselves said: ‘What marvels the Lord worked for them!’ What marvels the Lord worked for us! Indeed we were glad. (R).

Deliver us, O Lord, from our bondage as streams in dry land. Those who are sowing in tears will sing when they reap. (R).

They go out, they go out, full of tears, carrying seed for the sowing: they come back, they come back, full of song, carrying their sheaves. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! I chose you from the world to go out and bear fruit, fruit that will last, says the Lord. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Jn. 15:16)

Daily Gospel for july 25. Matthew 20:20-28.

Daily Gospel reading for saturday, july 25 (Whoever wants to be the great one should become the server): "At that time, The mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Jesus with her sons to make a request of him, and bowed low; and he said to her, "What is it you want?" She said to him, "Promise that these two sons of mine may sit one at your right hand and the other at your left in your kingdom." "You do not know what you are asking" Jesus answered. "Can you drink the cup that I am going to drink?’ They replied, ‘We can." "Very well," he said "you shall drink my cup, but as for seats at my right hand and my left, these are not mine to grant; they belong to those to whom they have been allotted by my Father." When the other ten heard this they were indignant with the two brothers. But Jesus called them to him and said, "You know that among the pagans the rulers lord it over them, and their great men make their authority felt. This is not to happen among you. No; anyone who wants to be great among you must be your servant, and anyone who wants to be first among you must be your slave, just as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"Whoever wants to be the great one should become the server"

A Christian who receives the gift of faith in Baptism, but who does not carry out this gift by way of service, becomes a Christian without strength, without fruitfulness. And in the end, he becomes a Christian for himself, to serve himself. So his life is a sad one, since so many great things of the Lord are wasted.

We can move away from this attitude of service, first of all, because of a little laziness. And this makes your heart warm, laziness makes you comfortable.

Laziness takes us away from service and leads us to comfort, to selfishness. So many Christians like this are good, they go to Mass, but service up to here. And when I say service, I say everything: service to God in adoration, in prayer, in praise; service to the neighbor, when I must do it; service to the end, because Jesus is strong in this:

"So also you, when you have done all that has been commanded you, now say we are unprofitable servants".

The other possibility of moving away from the attitude of service is a little bit of owning the situations. Something that happened to the disciples, to the apostles themselves: "They kept the people away so that they would not bother Jesus, but to make themselves comfortable".

The disciples took over the time of the Lord, they took over the power of the Lord: they wanted it for their little group. And then they took over this attitude of service, transforming it into a power structure.

In the reading of the daily Gospel, we see something that can be understood by observing the discussion about who was the greatest between James and John. And the mother who is going to ask the Lord that one of her sons be the prime minister and the other the minister of economy, with all the power in his hands.

This happens also today when Christians become masters: masters of faith, masters of the Kingdom, masters of Salvation. This happens, it is a temptation for all Christians. Instead the Lord speaks to us of service: service in humility, in hope, and this is the joy of Christian service.

May the Lord give us these two great graces: humility in service, so that we can say: "We are useless servants", but servants, until the end; and hope in expectation of manifestation, when the Lord comes to meet us. (Daily Gospel reflection, St. Martha, November 13, 2014).

Daily Gospel Prayer for july 25.

Lord Jesus, You give me everything I need to be happy. Free my soul from the greed that steals my freedom. Free me from those bad inclinations that try to separate me from You. Heal my heart of my most evil passions. Help me to see that, only by serving, can I find true love. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Every human project can first obtain consensus and then be shipwrecked, while everything that comes from above and bears the ´signature´ of God is destined to endure. (Pope Francis, 9.18.2019))
