Readings for daily Gospel, September 3, 2020. Reflection on holy Gospel of Luke 5:1-11 - Daily Readings and the daily Prayer for your life on Thursday of the 22nd Week in Ordinary Time.

Daily prayer for September 3.

In the daily prayer for today, I say: "God of Wisdom, today I want to give myself to you, with all my burdens and afflictions. Help me to be an instrument of your love. I want to be able to live in the now, without being tied down by the pain caused by yesterday. I want to be a carrier of your light and truth. Open my eyes to your blessings and free me from the selfishness that blinds me and does not make me distinguish good from evil clearly. I place everything in your healing hands. May my purposes find comfort and steadfastness in you. Help me to take advantage of all the opportunities you give me to be happy with my loved ones. Amen"

Reading for Thursday. Daily gospel

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book 1 Corinthians 3:18-23 (The wisdom of the world is foolishness to God)

Make no mistake about it: if any one of you thinks of himself as wise, in the ordinary sense of the word, then he must learn to be a fool before he really can be wise. Why? Because the wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As scripture says: The Lord knows wise men’s thoughts: he knows how useless they are; or again: God is not convinced by the arguments of the wise. So there is nothing to boast about in anything human: Paul, Apollos, Cephas, the world, life and death, the present and the future, are all your servants; but you belong to Christ and Christ belongs to God.

Daily Psalm for Thursday.

Psalm 23(24):1-6.

"The Lord´s is the earth and its fullness." (R).

The Lord´s is the earth and its fullness, the world and all its peoples. It is he who set it on the seas; on the waters he made it firm. (R).

Who shall climb the mountain of the Lord? Who shall stand in his holy place? The man with clean hands and pure heart, who desires not worthless things. (R).

He shall receive blessings from the Lord and reward from the God who saves him. Such are the men who seek him, seek the face of the God of Jacob. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Follow me, says the Lord, and I will make you into fishers of men. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Mt 4:19.)

Daily Gospel for September 3. Luke 5:1-11.

Daily Gospel reading for Thursday, September 3 (The teaching of miraculous fishing): "At that time, Jesus was standing one day by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the crowd pressing round him listening to the word of God, when he caught sight of two boats close to the bank. The fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, it was Simon´s, and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch." "Master," Simon replied, "we worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets." And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear, so they signalled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, they filled the two boats to sinking point. When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, "Leave me, Lord; I am a sinful man." For he and all his companions were completely overcome by the catch they had made; so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simon´s partners. But Jesus said to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on it is men you will catch." Then, bringing their boats back to land, they left everything and followed him.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"Acknowledging one´s sins leads to an encounter with God.".

In the reading of the daily Gospel, we see that Peter experiences the encounter with Christ by seeing his own sin: he sees the strength of Jesus, and he sees himself. He bows at his feet saying, "Lord, get away from me, for I am a sinner. In this encounter between Christ and my sins is salvation

The privileged place for the encounter with Jesus Christ is one´s own sins. If a Christian is not capable of feeling himself to be a sinner and saved by the blood of Christ, of this crucified, he is a Christian in the middle of his journey, he is a lukewarm Christian.

When we encounter decadent churches, when we encounter decadent parishes, decadent institutions, surely the Christians who are there have never encountered Jesus Christ or have forgotten that encounter with Jesus Christ.

The strength of Christian life and the strength of the Word of God is precisely at that moment when I, a sinner, encounter Jesus Christ and that encounter turns life around, changes life. And it gives you the strength to announce salvation to others. Through the words of the daily Gospel, we too must ask ourselves

  • "Am I able to say to the Lord: I am a sinner? Not in theory, but by confessing concrete sin?
  • Am I capable of believing that it is precisely He, with his Blood, who has saved me from sin and given me a new life?
  • Do I have confidence in Christ?

Of what things can a Christian boast? Of two things: of one´s own sins and of Christ crucified. (Daily Gospel reflection, Angelus, September 4, 2014.)

Daily Prayer for Gospel.

My Lord, I want to focus on the restoring force of your love. Clear my mind and heart to know how to act, what to say and make the best decisions. Help me to move forward with wisdom, confident in your promises, for he who follows you will not be discouraged or discouraged. You can do everything, you transform everything. You give the strength and calm to walk without fear. I count on your love and your power, which my Lord supports me. Today, more than ever, I need your powerful action on me. May my heart be filled with your peace and be able to live every challenge of life with faith. I trust in your mercy which is transforming me and shaping me with your Spirit. I believe Lord, but increase my faith. Amen. (Healing with the daily prayer for gospel)
