Daily Gospel - Readings for September 2, 2020.

Daily prayer for September 2.

Blessed be my God. Thank you for your love that fills me with strength not to let me faint in the challenges of my day. Your love makes me regain my confidence, be happier and less worried. I turn to your Holy Spirit to advocate for my well-being and that of my loved ones. Today, on Women´s Day, I want to ask you for so many good women in the world, for the women in my family. Continue to pour out your love on them so that they will continue to be better and better human beings and fight to win in whatever they set out to do. Thank you, Lord, for taking care of me and loving me. Amen.

Reading for Wednesday. Daily gospel

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book 1 Corinthians 3:1-9 (Neither the planter nor the waterer matters, only God, who makes things grow)

Brothers, I myself was unable to speak to you as people of the Spirit: I treated you as sensual men, still infants in Christ. What I fed you with was milk, not solid food, for you were not ready for it; and indeed, you are still not ready for it since you are still nonspiritual. Isn´t that obvious from all the jealousy and wrangling that there is among you, from the way that you go on behaving like ordinary people? What could be more nonspiritual than your slogans, "I am for Paul" and "I am for Apollos"? After all, what is Apollos and what is Paul? They are servants who brought the faith to you. Even the different ways in which they brought it were assigned to them by the Lord. I did the planting, Apollos did the watering, but God made things grow. Neither the planter nor the waterer matters: only God, who makes things grow. It is all one who does the planting and who does the watering, and each will duly be paid according to his share in the work. We are fellow workers with God; you are God´s farm, God´s building.

Daily Psalm for Wednesday.

Psalm 32(33):12-15,20-21.

"Happy the people the Lord has chosen as his own." (R).

They are happy, whose God is the Lord, the people he has chosen as his own. From the heavens the Lord looks forth, he sees all the children of men. (R).

From the place where he dwells he gazes on all the dwellers on the earth; he who shapes the hearts of them all; and considers all their deeds. (R).

Our soul is waiting for the Lord. The Lord is our help and our shield. In him do our hearts find joy. We trust in his holy name. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! The word of the Lord remains for ever: What is this word? It is the Good News that has been brought to you. Alleluia!" (Cfr. 1 Peter 1:25.)

Daily Gospel for September 2. Luke 4:38-44.

Daily Gospel reading for Wednesday, September 2 (Jesus heals and casts out demons where he goes): "At that time, leaving the synagogue, Jesus went to Simon´s house. Now Simon´s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked him to do something for her. Leaning over her he rebuked the fever and it left her. And she immediately got up and began to wait on them. At sunset all those who had friends suffering from diseases of one kind or another brought them to him, and laying his hands on each he cured them. Devils too came out of many people, howling, "You are the Son of God." But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak because they knew that he was the Christ. When daylight came he left the house and made his way to a lonely place. The crowds went to look for him, and when they had caught up with him they wanted to prevent him leaving them, but he answered, "I must proclaim the Good News of the kingdom of God to the other towns too, because that is what I was sent to do." And he continued his preaching in the synagogues of Judaea.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"Jesus saves, heals, cures, comforts. He is the great physician of souls.".

In the reading of the daily Gospel, we observe that Jesus, once he enters Simon Peter´s house, sees that his mother-in-law is in bed with a fever; he immediately takes her hand, cures her and makes her get up.

After the sunset, when the Sabbath is over, people can go out and bring him the sick, he heals a multitude of people affected by diseases of all kinds: physical, psychic and spiritual.

In the daily Gospel, we realize that, Jesus has come into the world to announce and save every man. And to all men He shows a particular predilection for those who are wounded in body and spirit: the poor, the sinners, the demon-possessed, the sick and the outcasts, revealing Himself to be the physician of souls and body, the good Samaritan of man". He is the true Savior: Jesus saves, Jesus heals, Jesus heals.

Such reality of Christ´s healing of the sick invites us to reflect on the meaning and value of illness.

(...) By sending his disciples on mission, Jesus gives them a twofold mandate: to proclaim the Gospel of salvation and to heal the sick (Cf. Matthew 10:7-8). Faithful to this teaching, the Church has always considered the care of the sick an integral part of her mission.

"The poor and the sick will always be with you," Jesus teaches (Cf. Matthew 26:11), and the Church continually finds them along her path, considering the sick as a privileged way to meet Christ, to welcome him, and to serve him. To heal a sick person, to welcome him, to serve him, is to serve Christ: the sick person is the flesh of Christ.

(...) Through the message of the daily Gospel, we need to make it clear that each one of us is called to bring the light of the Word of God and the power of grace to those who suffer and to all who assist them, family members, doctors, nurses, so that the service to the sick is carried out with ever greater humanity, with generous dedication, with Gospel love, with tenderness.

Let us pray to Mary, "Health of the Sick", so that every person in sickness may experience, thanks to the care of those who are close to him, the power of God´s love and the consolation of her maternal tenderness. (Daily Gospel reflection, Angelus, February 8, 2015)

Daily Prayer for Gospel.

Oh Lord, You are the great Physician of souls, the great healer, the one who touches the open wounds of my heart and takes away all my pains and torments. Guide me to act in a right way. I want to be healed by your love, to stand up, to continue fighting and to put myself at the service of your commands. Fill me with strength in my weakness, lay your hand on me, heal my pride, selfishness, indifference and make me follow your steps faithfully. With your grace, Father of goodness, I want to free myself from my past mistakes, and through your light regain the strength to build a better future for myself and my people. I trust that all will go well with you. No sickness can resist your word, no evil can withstand the power of your immense love. Amen. (Healing with the daily prayer for gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Jesus is never far from us sinners. He wants to pour out upon us, without measure, all his mercy." Pope Francis.

Purpose for daily Gospel.

Fasting is a powerful spiritual weapon. I will offer to fast one meal a day for the conversion of a family member who is very reluctant to come to God.
