Serenity prayer for November 18.

God of love and supreme goodness, thank you for allowing me to live all the things that have happened to me, both the good and the not so good. I entrust the good ones to you so that I can continue to bear fruit. The not so good I thank you because through them, you strengthen my faith. Lead me Lord and give me new opportunities to grow and love as You love me. So be it.

These are the daily readings for Wednesday of the 33rd Week in Ordinary Time.

Readings for Wednesday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Apocalypse 4:1-11: "Holy is he who was, he who is, and he who is to come".

"Then, in my vision, I saw a door open in heaven and heard the same voice speaking to me, the voice like a trumpet, saying, "Come up here: I will show you what is to take place in the future." With that, I fell into ecstasy and I saw a throne standing in heaven, and the One who was sitting on the throne, and the One sitting there looked like a diamond and a ruby. There was a rainbow encircling the throne, and this looked like an emerald. Round the throne in a circle were twenty-four thrones, and on them twenty-four elders sitting, dressed in white robes with golden crowns on their heads. Flashes of lightning were coming from the throne, and the sound of peals of thunder, and in front of the throne there were seven flaming lamps burning, the seven Spirits of God. In front of the throne was a sea as transparent as crystal. In the middle of the throne and around it, were four living creatures all studded with eyes, in front and behind. The first living creature was like a lion, the second like a bull, the third living creature had a human face, and the fourth living creature was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was studded with eyes all the way round as well as inside; and day and night they never stopped singing: "Holy, Holy, Holy is the Lord God, the Almighty; who was, and is and is to come." Every time the living creatures glorified and honoured and gave thanks to the One sitting on the throne, who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders prostrated themselves before him to worship the One who lives for ever and ever, and threw down their crowns in front of the throne, saying: You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you, made the whole universe; by your will, when it did not exist, it was created"

  • O praise him with sound of trumpet, praise him with lute and harp. Praise him with timbrel and dance, praise him with strings and pipes. (R).
  • O praise him with resounding cymbals, praise him with clashing of cymbals. Let everything that lives and that breathes give praise to the Lord. (R).

Daily Gospel for November 18. Luke 19:11-28.

Daily readings for Wednesday, Gospel for November 18 (Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God): "At that time, while the people were listening to this he went on to tell a parable because he was near Jerusalem, and they thought that the kingdom of God was going to show itself then and there. Accordingly, he said, "A man of noble birth went to a distant country to be appointed king and then return. He summoned ten of his servants and gave them ten pounds, telling them, "Trade with these, until I get back." But his compatriots detested him and sent a delegation to follow him with this message, "We do not want this man to be our king." ´Now it happened that on his return, having received his appointment as king, he sent for those servants to whom he had given the money, to find out what profit each had made by trading. The first came in, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has brought in ten." He replied, "Well done, my good servant! Since you have proved yourself trustworthy in a very small thing, you shall have the government of ten cities." Then came the second, "Sir," he said, "your one pound has made five." To this one also he said, "And you shall be in charge of five cities." Next came the other, "Sir," he said, "here is your pound. I put it away safely wrapped up in a cloth because I was afraid of you; for you are an exacting man: you gather in what you have not laid out and reap what you have not sown." He said to him, "You wicked servant! Out of your own mouth I condemn you. So, you knew that I was an exacting man, gathering in what I have not laid out and reaping what I have not sown? Then why did you not put my money in the bank? On my return I could have drawn it out with interest." And he said to those standing by, "Take the pound from him and give it to the man who has ten pounds." And they said to him, "But, sir, he has ten pounds." "I tell you, to everyone who has will be given more; but anyone who has not will be deprived even of what he has. "As for my enemies who did not want me for their king, bring them here and execute them in my presence." When he had said this he went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem". Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"How much love you have shared with others"

In the daily Readings, we see that the Lord of the parable is Jesus, the servants are us and the talents are the patrimony that the Lord entrusts to us. The heritage of his Word, the Eucharist, faith in the heavenly Father, his forgiveness, in short, so many things, his most precious possessions. Not only to keep it, but to make it grow.

If in common language the word talent indicates an outstanding individual ability, in the parable, the talents are the gifts of the Lord. The hole dug in the ground by the "bad and lazy servant" indicates the fear of risk that blocks the creativity and fruitfulness of love.

Jesus does not ask us to keep his grace in a safe, he wants us to use it for the benefit of others. All the goods we have received are to be given to others, and so they grow?

Through daily readings, we ask ourselves: What do we do with the talents the Lord has given us? Who have we "infected" with our faith? How many people have we encouraged with our hope? How much love have we shared with our neighbor? Any environment, even the most distant and difficult, can become a place where talents can be made fruitful.

There are no situations or places closed to Christian presence and witness. The witness that Jesus asks of us is not closed, it is open, it depends on us.

The parable of the talents that we read in the daily reading urges us not to hide our faith and our belonging to Christ, not to bury the word of the Gospel, but to make it circulate in our lives, as a force that puts us in crisis, that renews.

The same is true for the forgiveness that the Lord gives us especially in the Sacrament of Reconciliation: let us not keep it locked up in us, let us allow it to break down the walls that our selfishness has erected, let us take the first step in blocked relationships, let us resume dialogue where there is no communication.

Moreover, the Lord does not give everyone the same thing, he knows us personally and trusts us with what is right for us; but in everyone, in everyone there is something the same: the same, immense trust.

God trusts us, God has hope in us. This is the same for everyone. Let us not be deceived by fear; on the contrary, let us return trust for trust´s sake!. (Daily Readings reflection, Angelus, November 16, 2014.).

Daily Prayer for Gospel.

Lord of my life, how much I miss your presence when I feel weakest. I entrust my words and actions to you and place myself under your protection. I want you to be my strong rock, that the throne of your power prevails over me. Help me to discern the right use of the talents you have given me and to give you the fruits of goodness. Reign in my home and in my heart. Help me to be faithful to you in much and in little, and to make you known simply and honestly. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Even a smile shared with the poor is a source of love and joy. May the outstretched hand always be enriched by the smile of one who does not weigh down his presence or the help he offers, but rejoices only in living according to the style of Christ´s disciples". Pope Francis.

Purpose for daily Gospel.
