Readings for Wednesday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Apocalypse 15:1-4: "The winners sing the hymn of Moses and the Lamb".

What I, John, saw in heaven was a great and wonderful sign: seven angels were bringing the seven plagues that are the last of all, because they exhaust the anger of God. I seemed to see a glass lake suffused with fire, and standing by the lake of glass, those who had fought against the beast and won, and against his statue and the number which is his name. They all had harps from God, and they were singing the hymn of Moses, the servant of God, and of the Lamb: "How great and wonderful are all your works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are all your ways, King of nations. Who would not revere and praise your name, O Lord? You alone are holy, and all the pagans will come and adore you for the many acts of justice you have shown".

Daily Psalm for Wednesday.

Psalm 97(98):1-3,7-9: "How great and wonderful are all your works, Lord God almighty." (R).

  • Sing a new song to the Lord for he has worked wonders. His right hand and his holy arm have brought salvation. (R).
  • The Lord has made known his salvation; has shown his justice to the nations. He has remembered his truth and love for the house of Israel. (R).
  • Let the sea and all within it, thunder; the world, and all its peoples. Let the rivers clap their hands and the hills ring out their joy at the presence of the Lord. (R).
  • For the Lord comes, he comes to rule the earth. He will rule the world with justice and the peoples with fairness. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to stand with confidence before the Son of Man. Alleluia!" (Daily readings for today extracted of Luke 21,36.)

Daily Gospel for November 25. Luke 21,12-19.

Daily readings Wednesday, Gospel for November 25 (God´s promises to those who remain faithful): "At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: "Men will seize you and persecute you; they will hand you over to the synagogues and to imprisonment, and bring you before kings and governors because of my name, and that will be your opportunity to bear witness. Keep this carefully in mind: you are not to prepare your defence, because I myself shall give you an eloquence and a wisdom that none of your opponents will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relations and friends; and some of you will be put to death. You will be hated by all men on account of my name, but not a hair of your head will be lost. Your endurance will win you your lives.". (The daily readings and the Holy Gospel, on this page, are from the Jerusalem Bible)

Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"Pope Francis: God is able to give you peace in the midst of any conflict"

In the daily Readings, Jesus warns us: You will be hated. The Gospel of this feast recalls a part of Jesus´ words to his disciples at the moment he sends them on mission. He says, among other things: "You will be hated by all because of my name, but the one who perseveres to the end will be saved. (Matthew 10:22).

These words of the Lord in today´s reading make us understand that in the trials accepted because of faith, violence is defeated by love, death by life. We must bear witness to Jesus in humility, in silent service, without fear of going against the tide and paying in person. And if not all are called, like St. Stephen, to shed their own blood, every Christian is nevertheless asked to be consistent, in every circumstance, with the faith he professes.

Consistency. This is Christian consistency, it is a grace that we must ask the Lord: to be consistent, to live as Christians. And not say I am a Christian and live like a pagan. Coherence is a grace that we must ask for today. To follow the Gospel is certainly a demanding path, but beautiful, beautiful! whoever walks it with fidelity and courage receives the gift promised by the Lord to men and women of good will. As the angels sing on Christmas Day: peace, peace.

This God-given peace is capable of appeasing the conscience of all those who, through the trials of life, know how to accept the Word of God and commit themselves to observe it with perseverance to the end.

Today, brothers and sisters, let us pray in particular for all those who are discriminated against, persecuted and killed because of their witness to Christ. Let us also pray that, thanks to the sacrifice of these martyrs of today, who are so many, so many, the commitment to recognize and concretely ensure religious freedom, which is an inalienable right of every human person, may be strengthened throughout the world. (Daily Readings reflection, Angelus, December 30, 2014.).

Daily Prayer for Gospel.

Lord, You are the King of my life. I want to persevere until the end, to travel this world counting on your Presence that protects me at all times. I place my dreams in your hands and receive security, hope and comfort. None of my struggles will be in vain if I hold your hand. Even if I suffer persecution, I will not fear, for your promises are stronger than any calamity. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)
