Serenity prayer for September 18.

Lord, thank you for being so merciful to me and to the whole world for pouring out so many blessings on my home and on the whole world of which, more than once, I feel I do not deserve it. But your love is holy and generous. In my sorrows, pains and anguish, I know that I can cry out to you for comfort and to feel loved and valued. I need you now to fill my heart with strength and help me to break down those walls of loneliness that I have built inside me, making me hard and ungrateful. My life is in your hands Lord. I bless and praise you because, through your mercy, and with the maternal mantle of Mary, you extend your protection to my home and free me from danger. Amen.

These are the daily readings for Friday of the 24th Week in Ordinary Time, celebrating to Saint Joseph of Cupertino.

Readings for Friday.

Daily readings for gospel

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of 1 Corinthians 15:1-11.

Now if Christ raised from the dead is what has been preached, how can some of you be saying that there is no resurrection of the dead? If there is no resurrection of the dead, Christ himself cannot have been raised, and if Christ has not been raised then our preaching is useless and your believing it is useless; indeed, we are shown up as witnesses who have committed perjury before God, because we swore in evidence before God that he had raised Christ to life. For if the dead are not raised, Christ has not been raised, and if Christ has not been raised, you are still in your sins. And what is more serious, all who have died in Christ have perished. If our hope in Christ has been for this life only, we are the most unfortunate of all people. But Christ has in fact been raised from the dead, the first-fruits of all who have fallen asleep.

Daily Psalm for Friday.

Psalm 16(17):1,6-8,15.

"I shall be filled, when I awake, with the sight of your glory, O Lord." (R).

Lord, hear a cause that is just, pay heed to my cry. Turn your ear to my prayer: no deceit is on my lips.

I am here and I call, you will hear me, O God. Turn your ear to me; hear my words. Display your great love, you whose right hand saves your friends from those who rebel against them.

Guard me as the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings As for me, in my justice I shall see your face and be filled, when I awake, with the sight of your glory.

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to mere children. Alleluia!" (Daily readings for today extracted of Mt 11:25)"

Daily Gospel for September 18. Luke 8:1-3.

Daily Gospel reading for Friday, September 18 (Women followers of Jesus): "At that time, Jesus made his way through towns and villages preaching, and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom of God. With him went the Twelve, as well as certain women who had been cured of evil spirits and ailments: Mary surnamed the Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, Joanna the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, Susanna, and several others who provided for them out of their own resources".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

"Valuing women, because they are capable of achieving great things."

In the daily Readings, the Gospel shows us that experience teaches us that in order to know ourselves well and grow harmoniously, human beings need reciprocity between men and women. When this does not happen, we see the consequences.

We are made to listen to and help each other. We can say that without mutual enrichment in this relationship, in thought and action, in affection and work, even in faith, the two cannot even understand in depth what it means to be man and woman.

(...) There is no doubt that we must do much more for women if we want to strengthen reciprocity between men and women. Through the daily readings, we see that it is indeed necessary for women not only to be heard more, but for their voice to have real weight, a recognized authority, in society and in the Church.

The same way in which Jesus considered woman in a less favorable context than ours because in those times woman was precisely in second place. And, in the daily Gospel, we see that Jesus treated her in a way that gives a powerful light, that illuminates a path that leads far away, of which we have traveled only a small part.

We have not yet understood in depth what the feminine genius can give us, what women can give to society and also to us: women know how to see things with other eyes that complete men´s thinking. It is a path to be walked with more creativity and audacity.

(...) The earth is filled with harmony and trust when the alliance between man and woman is lived well. And if man and woman seek it together among themselves and with God, they will certainly find it. Jesus explicitly encourages us to witness to this beauty, which is the image of God. (Daily Gospel reflection, General Audience, Saint Martha, September 18, 2014.)

Daily Prayer for Gospel.

My God, my God, what a beauty it is to contemplate the grace of life when I wake up and look up to Heaven looking for your Face in all creation. Thank you for everything you have placed in my life. Thank you for all the gifts and beauty you have placed within me. I want to ask you today for serenity and acceptance in all those things that are beyond my control. I give them into your hands. Keep me in the cross of your arms, protecting me from all danger. It does not matter if the paths I walk are difficult, if you go with me I am not afraid. May I always trust your love and keep hope and peace in my heart. Remove all evil from my life, every presence that circulates around me to make me lose your way. Breathe your love into me. Soften those parts of my attitudes that prevent me from having better relationships with others, especially with my loved ones. Thank you, Lord, because you have begun to bless me from the beginning of my life and you do not stop in this task so that I can reach my happiness. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)
