Serenity prayer for September 25.
Father, enlighten me to know how to make decisions according to the hope you have kept in my heart. I offer You at this moment all my thoughts, all that I do and will do this day. I give you my time, give me wisdom to fulfill my responsibilities with joy and commitment. I give You my family, my friends and loved ones. I give You my hours of struggle and my moments of rest. I give you my small achievements, my well-being and I also give you my difficulties, problems, anguish, which I will try, with your loving help, to bear with patience. Amen.
Readings for Saturday.
Daily readings for gospel - First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Zechariah 2:5-9.14-15a: "See, I am coming to dwell among you."
I, Zechariah, raised my eyes and looked: there was a man with a measuring line in his hand. I asked, "Where are you going?" He answered, "To measure Jerusalem, to see how great is its width and how great its length." Then the angel who spoke with me advanced, and another angel came out to meet him and said to him, "Run, tell this to that young man: People will live in Jerusalem as though in open country, because of the multitude of men and beasts in her midst. But I will be for her an encircling wall of fire, says the LORD, and I will be the glory in her midst." Sing and rejoice, O daughter Zion! See, I am coming to dwell among you, says the LORD. Many nations shall join themselves to the LORD on that day, and they shall be his people and he will dwell among you.
Daily Psalm for Saturday.
Responsorial Psalm is taken from the Book of Jeremiah 31:10.11-12ab.13: "The Lord will guard us as a shepherd guards his flock." (R).
- Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, proclaim it on distant isles, and say: He who scattered Israel, now gathers them together, he guards them as a shepherd guards his flock. (R).
- The LORD shall ransom Jacob, he shall redeem him from the hand of his conqueror. Shouting, they shall mount the heights of Zion, they shall come streaming to the LORD’s blessings. (R).
- Then the virgins shall make merry and dance, and young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into joy, I will console and gladden them after their sorrows. (R).
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia. Our Savior Christ Jesus destroyed death and brought life to light through the Gospel. Alleluia, alleluia" (Daily readings for today extracted of 2 Timothy 1:10)
Daily Gospel - Luke 9:43b-45.
Daily readings for Saturday, Gospel for September 25 (The Son of Man is to be handed over to men): "At that time, while they were all amazed at his every deed, Jesus said to his disciples, “Pay attention to what I am telling you. The Son of Man is to be handed over to men.” But they did not understand this saying; its meaning was hidden from them so that they should not understand it, and they were afraid to ask him about this saying".
Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.
"Accept the way of the Gospel, even if it causes us problems." Pope Francis.
In the daily Readings, Jesus warns us that the way he proposes goes against the grain, even challenging society by the way we live and, consequently, becoming a nuisance. He reminds us how many people have been, and continue to be, persecuted simply because they fight for justice because they take their commitment to God and to others seriously. Unless we want to sink into obscure mediocrity, let us not long for an easy life, for "whoever would save his life will lose it" (Mt 16:25).
In living the Gospel, we cannot expect everything to be easy, for the thirst for power and worldly interests often stand in our way. Pope St. John Paul II pointed out that "a society is alienated if its forms of social organization, production and consumption hinder this gift of self and this solidarity among people."[78] In such a society, politics, mass communications and economic, cultural and even religious institutions become so entangled that they become an obstacle to authentic human and social development. Consequently, it is not easy to live the Beatitudes; any attempt to do so will be viewed negatively, looked upon with suspicion and received with derision.
Despite the weariness and pain we may experience in living the commandment of love and following the path of justice, the cross remains the source of our growth and sanctification. We must never forget that when the New Testament tells us that we will have to endure suffering for the Gospel, it speaks precisely of persecution (cf. Acts 5:41; Phil 1:29; Col 1:24; 2 Tim 1:12; 1 Pet 2:20; 4:14-16; Rev 2:10).
Here we are speaking of inevitable persecution, not of the kind of persecution that we ourselves might provoke by our mistreatment of others. The saints are not strange and distant, unbearable because of their vanity, negativity and bitterness. Christ´s Apostles were not like that. The Book of Acts repeatedly states that they enjoyed the favor of "all the people" (2:47; cf. 4:21,33; 5:13), even when some authorities harassed and persecuted them (cf. 4:1-3; 5:17-18).
Persecutions are not a reality of the past, for we also experience them today, whether by bloodshed, as in the case of so many contemporary martyrs, or by more subtle means, by slander and lies. Jesus calls us blessed when people "speak all kinds of evil against you falsely for my sake" (Mt 5:11). At other times, persecution can take the form of mockery that attempts to caricature our faith and make us look ridiculous... To accept every day the way of the Gospel, even if it causes us problems: this is holiness. (Daily Readings reflection, Apostolic Exhortation Gaudete et Exultate, 90-94).
Daily Prayer for the Gospel.
Lord, help me to remain strong in my trials. The crosses I have are gradually taking peace from my soul. It is difficult to walk the way of the cross, to accept it and to continue. Enable me to overcome all fear and to understand your mystery of love. Give me your strength that drives me in all my struggles. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)
The Pope´s daily quotation.
"Let us not look away from the suffering of our brothers and sisters deprived of freedom and dignity, victims of contemporary slavery. Let us ask Our Lady of Mercy to help us work together to break the chains and give them back a dignified life" Pope Francis.
Avoid bad words and bad comments about something or someone. Always look for the good and kind side of everyone.
