Readings for Thursday.
Daily readings for gospel - First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Haggai 1:1-8: "Build the house that I may take pleasure in it."
On the first day of the sixth month in the second year of King Darius, The word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai to the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and to the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak: Thus says the LORD of hosts: This people says: “The time has not yet come to rebuild the house of the LORD.” (Then this word of the LORD came through Haggai, the prophet:) Is it time for you to dwell in your own paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? Now thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways! You have sown much, but have brought in little; you have eaten, but have not been satisfied; You have drunk, but have not been exhilarated; have clothed yourselves, but not been warmed; And whoever earned wages earned them for a bag with holes in it. Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider your ways! Go up into the hill country; bring timber, and build the house That I may take pleasure in it and receive my glory, says the LORD.
Daily Psalm for Thursday.
Responsorial Psalm is taken from the Book of Psalm 149:1b-2,3-4,5-6a and 9b: "The Lord takes delight in his people". (R)
- Sing to the LORD a new song of praise in the assembly of the faithful. Let Israel be glad in their maker, let the children of Zion rejoice in their king. (R)
- Let them praise his name in the festive dance, let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp. For the LORD loves his people, and he adorns the lowly with victory. (R)
- Let the faithful exult in glory; let them sing for joy upon their couches; Let the high praises of God be in their throats. This is the glory of all his faithful. Alleluia. (R)
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia. I am the way and the truth and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me. Alleluia, alleluia. " (Daily readings for today extracted of Psalm John 14:6)
Daily Gospel - Luke 9:7-9.
Daily reading for Thursday, Gospel for September 23 (Herod´s uncertainty about Jesus): "At that time, Herod the tetrarch had heard about all that was being done by Jesus; and he was puzzled because some people were saying that John had risen from the dead, others that Elijah had reappeared, still others that one of the ancient prophets had come back to life. But Herod said, "John? I beheaded him. So, who is this I hear such reports about?" And he was anxious to see Jesus".
Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.
"God is known in prayer.", Pope Francis.
In the daily Readings, In today´s Readings, a character asks himself: "Who is this, where does he come from? This is the question Herod asks about Jesus. A question that in reality is asked by all those who encounter Jesus. It is a question that can be asked out of curiosity, or it can be asked out of security.
In the daily readings for the Gospel, we see that some begin to fear this man because he may lead them into political conflict with the Romans. "Who is this man who causes so much trouble? Because, truly, Jesus causes problems.
You cannot know Jesus without having problems. And I dare say, "But if you want to have a problem, go down the road of knowing Jesus. Not one, so many you will have. But it is the way to know Jesus. You can´t meet Jesus in first class. Jesus is known in everyday life. You can´t meet Jesus in the quiet, not even in the library. Knowing Jesus.
Certainly, you can know Jesus in the Catechism because the Catechism teaches us so many things about Jesus. We must study it, we must learn it. In this way we know the Son of God, who has come to save us; we understand all the beauty of the history of salvation, of the love of the Father, by studying the Catechism. And yet, how many have read the Catechism of the Catholic Church since it was published more than twenty years ago? Yes, one must know Jesus in the Catechism.
Through the daily readings, we know that "it is not enough to know Jesus with your mind: it is a step. But it is necessary to know Jesus in dialogue with him, in talking with him, in prayer, on our knees. If you do not pray, if you do not speak with Jesus, you do not know him. You know things about Jesus, but you do not go with the knowledge that the heart gives you in prayer. To know Jesus with the mind, the study of the Catechism; to know Jesus with the heart, in prayer, in dialogue with him. This helps us a lot, but it is not enough either.
Here is a third way to know Jesus: it is to follow him. To go with Him, to walk with Him. It is necessary to walk, to go through his paths, walking! It is necessary, the Pope said, to know Jesus with the language of action. Here then is that one can truly know Jesus with these three languages, of the mind, of the heart and of action. Therefore, if I know Jesus in this way, I implicate myself with him. (Daily Gospel reflection, St. Martha, September 26, 2013)
Daily Prayer for the Gospel.
My good God, knowing you has been the greatest treasure of my life. My existence had no meaning until I let myself be embraced by the saving cross of your love. I look at you, I contemplate you, crucified, wounded and bruised. You gave your life for me for the salvation of my soul so that I can enjoy the wonders of Heaven. But I, a sinner, am often diverted from your mercy when I ignore the needy, when I fight with my brothers, when I turn out to be selfish, vain, and sometimes when I speak ill of my neighbor. I want to follow you in spirit and truth. Your outstretched arms are an invitation to drink of your mercy and then give it to others. O Lord, I want to deepen my relationship with you, to join in your mysteries of suffering. I feel that, by opening the doors of my heart to you, an immense joy has invaded my life. I feel that I can now take confident and secure steps, holding your hand. I feel my life being completely transformed and guided to true happiness. I love you, Lord. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)
The Pope´s daily quotation.
"Whoever allows himself to be guided by God is never disappointed or loses his way." Pope Francis.
I will offer the Lord the prayer of the holy rosary for the conversion of my family and for many people to have a personal encounter with Jesus through his word.
