Daily Gospel - Readings for july 5, 2020.

Reading for sunday.

Zechariah 9:9-10.

"The Lord says this: Rejoice heart and soul, daughter of Zion! Shout with gladness, daughter of Jerusalem! See now, your king comes to you; he is victorious, he is triumphant, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. He will banish chariots from Ephraimand horses from Jerusalem; the bow of war will be banished. He will proclaim peace for the nations. His empire shall stretch from sea to sea, from the River to the ends of the earth

Daily Psalm for sunday.

Psalm 144(145):1-2,8-11,13b-14

"I will bless your name for ever, O God my King" (R).

I will give you glory, O God my king, I will bless your name for ever. I will bless you day after day and praise your name for ever.(R).

The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures.(R).

All your creatures shall thank you, O Lord, and your friends shall repeat their blessing. They shall speak of the glory of your reign and declare your might, O God.(R).

The Lord is faithful in all his words and loving in all his deeds. The Lord supports all who fall and raises all who are bowed down.(R).

Second reading for today.

Romans 8:9,11-13

If by the Spirit you put an end to the misdeeds of the body, you will live Your interests are not in the unspiritual, but in the spiritual, since the Spirit of God has made his home in you. In fact, unless you possessed the Spirit of Christ you would not belong to him, and if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, then he who raised Jesus from the dead will give life to your own mortal bodies through his Spirit living in you. So then, my brothers, there is no necessity for us to obey our unspiritual selves or to live unspiritual lives. If you do live in that way, you are doomed to die; but if by the Spirit you put an end to the misdeeds of the body you will live.

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to mere children. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Matthew 11:25)

Daily Gospel for july 5. Matthew 11:25-30

#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for sunday, July 5 (To new wine, new wineskins): "At that time, Jesus exclaimed: "I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows the Son except the Father, just as no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." Come to me, all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. Yes, my yoke is easy and my burden light.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

In the daily Gospel reading for today, we see that Jesus says, "Come to me, all you who are in any way afflicted and burdened, and I will give you rest" (Mt 11:28). When Jesus says this, he has before his eyes the people he meets every day on the roads of Galilee: many simple people, poor, sick, sinners, outcasts, these people always followed him to hear his word, a word that gave hope.

Jesus´ words always give hope. and also to touch even the edge of his cloak. Jesus himself sought out these exhausted and scattered crowds like sheep without a shepherd (cf. Mt 9:35-36): so he says, and he sought them out to announce the Kingdom of God and to heal many of them in body and spirit. Now he calls them all to his side: "Come to me", and promises them relief and refreshment.

This invitation of Jesus extends to our day, to reach out to many brothers and sisters oppressed by precarious living conditions, by difficult existential situations and sometimes deprived of authentic points of reference.

In the poorest countries, but also in the peripheries of the richest countries, there are many people who are helpless and dispersed under the unbearable weight of abandonment and indifference.

To each of these children of the Father in heaven, Jesus repeats: "Come to me, all of you. But he also says it to those who have everything. But whose heart is empty. It is empty. Empty and godless heart. To them too, Jesus addresses this invitation: "Come to me".

Jesus´ invitation is for everyone. But in a special way for those who suffer the most. Jesus promises to comfort everyone, but he also makes an invitation, which is like a commandment:

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart" (Mt 11:29).

What does the Lord´s "yoke" consist of? It consists of carrying the weight of others with brotherly love. Once we have received the relief and comfort of Christ, we are also called to be relief and comfort for our brothers, with a meek and humble attitude, in imitation of the Master.

Meekness and humility of heart not only help us to bear the weight of others, but to not burden them with our own personal views, our judgments, our criticisms or our indifference. (Daily Gospel reflection. Angelus. Saint Martha, July 6, 2014)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"We all have to go through difficult days; but we must always remember that life is a grace, it is the miracle that God has brought out of nothing." (Pope Francis, 06.30.2019)

Daily porpose.

I will step aside to a quiet place for about 5 minutes and offer 10 Hail Marys for the blessed souls in Purgatory. They, too, need our prayers.
