Daily Gospel - Readings for July 1, 2020.

Reading for Wednesday.

Amós 5:14-15.21-24.

Seek good and not evil so that you may live, and that the Lord, God of Hosts, may really be with you as you claim he is. Hate evil, love good, maintain justice at the city gate, and it may be that the Lord, God of Hosts, will take pity on the remnant of Joseph. I hate and despise your feasts, I take no pleasure in your solemn festivals. When you offer me holocausts, I reject your oblations, and refuse to look at your sacrifices of fattened cattle. Let me have no more of the din of your chanting, no more of your strumming on harps. But let justice flow like water, and integrity like an unfailing stream.

Daily Psalm for Wednesday.

Psalm 49(50):7-13,16-17

"I will show God´s salvation to the righteous". (R).

Listen, my people, I will speak; Israel, I will testify against you, for I am God, your God. I accuse you, lay the charge before you. (R).

I find no fault with your sacrifices, your offerings are always before me. I do not ask more bullocks from your farms, nor goats from among your herds. (R).

I own all the beasts of the forest, beasts in their thousands on my hills. I know all the birds in the sky, all that moves in the field belongs to me. (R).

Were I hungry, I would not tell you, for I own the world and all it holds. Do you think I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? (R)

How can you recite my commandments and take my covenant on your lips, you who despise my law and throw my words to the winds? (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! By his own choice the Father made us his children by the message of the truth, so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all that he created. Alleluia!" (Cfr. James 1:18)

Daily Gospel for july 1. Matthew 8:28-34

#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for Wednesday, July 1 (Jesus casts out demons from two men): "At that time, when Jesus reached the country of the Gadarenes on the other side of the lake, two demoniacs came towards him out of the tombs – creatures so fierce that no one could pass that way. They stood there shouting, "What do you want with us, Son of God? Have you come here to torture us before the time?" Now some distance away there was a large herd of pigs feeding, and the devils pleaded with Jesus, "If you cast us out, send us into the herd of pigs." And he said to them, "Go then", and they came out and made for the pigs; and at that the whole herd charged down the cliff into the lake and perished in the water. The swineherds ran off and made for the town, where they told the whole story, including what had happened to the demoniacs. At this the whole town set out to meet Jesus; and as soon as they saw him they implored him to leave the neighbourhood".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

In the daily Gospel reading for today, we see that the devil exists. He exists by sowing hatred and death all over the world because he is envious of the Son of God becoming man. God created us for incorruption, and made us in his image and likeness... But because of the devil´s envy, death entered the world.

The envy of that proud angel who refused to accept the incarnation led him to destroy humanity. This is how jealousy, envy, rivalry, entered our hearts... this is where the struggle and the desire to destroy begins.

"But Father, I don´t destroy anyone." "No? What about your gossip? When you speak ill of someone, you destroy them." "The tongue is a fearsome weapon." "Gossip kills. Slander kills."

We´re fighting a war inside ourselves, and we have been since the beginning. Cain and Abel were brothers, but the jealousy and envy of the one destroyed the other. That´s how it is, you just have to watch the nightly news: "wars, destruction, people dying of diseases caused by wars.

Behind all this there is someone who moves us to do these things. This is what we call temptation. When we go to confession, we say to the priest: "Father, I was tempted by this, that and the other Someone touches your heart to lead you down the wrong path. Someone sows destruction and hatred in our hearts. Today we have to say it clearly, there are many who sow hatred in the world, who destroy.

I often have the impression that the news is a story of hate and destruction, wars and terrorist attacks. So many children are dying of hunger and disease because they have no water, no education, no health care. Instead, the money needed for this goes into making weapons of destruction. This is what is happening in the world, but also in my soul and yours, because of the envy and hatred of the devil "And why is the devil envious?"... he is envious of our human nature.

Do you know why? Because the Son of God became one of us. The devil can´t stand that... That´s why he destroys, and that´s the root of the devil´s envy, the root of our evils, our temptations, it´s the root of wars, of hunger, of all the calamities of the world...

I want us all to think about this: why is there so much hatred in the world today? In families that cannot be reconciled, in the neighbourhood, at work, in politics... The devil is the sower of hate: "Death entered the world out of the devil´s envy". Some say: but Father, the devil does not exist, he is an evil, an evil so ethereal... But the Word of God is clear. The devil got angry with Jesus. Read the Gospel: it is clear, whether we have faith or not.

May God make our hearts grow in faith in Jesus Christ, his Son", who took on our human nature, "to fight with our flesh and be victorious in our flesh over the devil and evil. May this faith give us the strength not to play the game of the envious, the great liar, the sower of hate. (Daily Gospel reflection, St. Martha. November 12,2019)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Jesus looks at us, loves us and waits for us. He is all heart and all mercy. Let us go to Jesus with confidence, He forgives us always".

Daily porpose.

Prayer is essential in the life of every Christian. It is for this reason that the devil uses some strategies to keep you away from prayer. Take a few minutes to communicate with God and pray an Our Father.
