Daily Gospel for April 25, 2020. Meditated by Pope Francis. Mark 16:15-20. Readings of the day. Holy Gospel of the 2nd Saturday of Easter

Readings of the day April 25. (2nd Saturday of Easter)

Reading of the First Epistle of Peter 5:5-14. Beloved: Clothe yourselves with humility in your dealings with one another, for:  God opposes the proud but bestows favor on the humble. So humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time. Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you. Be sober and vigilant. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion looking for (someone) to devour. Resist him, steadfast in faith, knowing that your fellow believers throughout the world undergo the same sufferings. The God of all grace who called you to his eternal glory through Christ (Jesus) will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you after you have suffered a little. To him be dominion forever. Amen. I write you this briefly through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, exhorting you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Remain firm in it. The chosen one at Babylon sends you greeting, as does Mark, my son. Greet one another with a loving kiss. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.

Daily Psalm. Psalm 89(88):2-3,6-7,16-17.

(R). "I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord".

The favors of the LORD I will sing forever; through all generations my mouth shall proclaim your faithfulness. For you have said, "My kindness is established forever"; in heaven you have confirmed your faithfulness. (R).

The heavens proclaim your wonders, O LORD, and your faithfulness, in the assembly of the holy ones. For who in the skies can rank with the LORD? Who is like the LORD among the sons of God? (R).

Blessed the people who know the joyful shout; in the light of your countenance, O LORD, they walk. At your name they rejoice all the day, and through your justice they are exalted (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation. April 25.

Alleluia, alleluia! We are preaching a crucified Christ, who is the power and the wisdom of God. Alleluia! (Cfr. 1 Co 1:23-24)

Daily Gospel. Gospel of the day April 25, 2020. Mark 16:15-20.

Reading for the Gospel of the day - (2nd Saturday of Easter - The mission of the disciples) Jesus said to the eleven: "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. These signs will accompany those who believe: in my name they will drive out demons, they will speak new languages. They will pick up serpents (with their hands), and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them. They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover." So then the Lord Jesus, after he spoke to them, was taken up into heaven and took his seat at the right hand of God. But they went forth and preached everywhere, while the Lord worked with them and confirmed the word through accompanying signs.

Daily Gospel Commentaries by Pope Francis.

In the Gospel of the day, the Ascension does not indicate the absence of Jesus, but tells us that He is alive among us in a new way; He is no longer in a precise place in the world as He was before the Ascension; He is now in the Lordship of God, present in all space and time, together with each one of us.

In our life we are never alone: we have this advocate who awaits us, who defends us. We are never alone.

The crucified and risen Lord guides us; with us there are many brothers and sisters who, in silence and darkness, in family and work life, in their problems and difficulties, in their joys and hopes, live their faith daily and bring to the world, together with us, the lordship of God´s love, in the risen Christ Jesus, ascended to Heaven, our advocate. (General Audience, April 17, 2013)

Jesus ascends to heaven, that is, He returns to the Father, who had sent Him into the world. He did his work and returned to the Father. But this is not a separation, because He always stays with us, in a new way.

With his Ascension, the risen Lord draws the apostles´ gaze - and also our gaze - to the heights of heaven to show us that the goal of our journey is the Father. He himself said that he would go away to prepare a place for us in heaven.

In the meantime, Jesus remains present and active in the situations of human history with the power and the gifts of his Spirit; he is at the side of each one of us: even if we do not see him with our eyes, he is there, he accompanies and guides us, takes us by the hand and lifts us up when we fall.

The Risen Jesus is close to the persecuted and discriminated Christians, close to every man and woman who suffer, he is close to all of us (Homily of the Gospel of the day. Feast of the Ascension of the Lord, June 1, 2014)

Pope´s quotes.

"Jesus formed the hearts of the Apostles to serve the people. He taught them the pastoral attitude of being near the people of God.Pastoral ministry is not accomplished with structures, but with the heart of a shepherd.Let us Pray Together for the Church´s pastors" (04.24.2020 - @pontifex)
