Daily Gospel - Readings for july 6, 2020.
Reading for monday.
Hosea 2:16,17-18,21-22.
"It is the Lord who speaks: I am going to lure her and lead her out into the wilderness and speak to her heart. I am going to give her back her vineyards, and make the Valley of Achor a gateway of hope. There she will respond to me as she did when she was young, as she did when she came out of the land of Egypt. When that day comes, it is the Lord who speaks, she will call me, My husband, no longer will she call me, My Baal. I will betroth you to myself for ever, betroth you with integrity and justice, with tenderness and love; I will betroth you to myself with faithfulness, and you will come to know the Lord.
Daily Psalm for monday.
Psalm 144(145):2-9
"The Lord is kind and full of compassion." (R).
I will bless you day after day and praise your name for ever. The Lord is great, highly to be praised, his greatness cannot be measured. (R).
Age to age shall proclaim your works, shall declare your mighty deeds, shall speak of your splendour and glory, tell the tale of your wonderful works. (R).
They will speak of your terrible deeds, recount your greatness and might. They will recall your abundant goodness; age to age shall ring out your justice. (R).
The Lord is kind and full of compassion, slow to anger, abounding in love. How good is the Lord to all, compassionate to all his creatures. (R).
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia! Your words are spirit, Lord, and they are life; you have the message of eternal life. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Jn 6:63,68)
Daily Gospel for july 6. Matthew 9:18-26.
#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for monday, July 6 (Healing of a woman and resurrection of a girl): "At that time, while Jesus was saying these things to them, a certain chieftain came and knelt down before him and said, ´Lord, my daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her and she will live. Jesus got up and followed him with his disciples. Then a woman came up behind him, who had been bleeding for twelve years, and touched the fringe of his garment, thinking, "Just by touching his garment, I will be healed". Jesus turned and saw her and said to her, "Have faith, child, your faith has saved you". And from that moment the woman was healed. When Jesus arrived at the chief´s house, he saw those who were playing funeral music and the people shouting, and he said, "Go away, the child is not dead, but sleeping". And they laughed at him. When they brought the people out, he went in and took her by the hand, and she got up. And this news spread through that region.".
Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.
Our faith can do anything. It is victory. And this would be beautiful if we were to repeat it, also to ourselves, because so many times we are defeated Christians.
In the daily Gospel reading for today, Jesus praised the faith of the hemorrhoid, the Canaanite or the blind man from birth and said that he who has faith as a mustard seed can move mountains. This faith asks of us two attitudes: to confess and to entrust ourselves.
Confess.
Faith is confessing to God, but to the God who has revealed himself to us, from the time of our fathers until now; to the God of history. And this is what we pray every day in the Creed.
And it´s one thing to pray the Creed from the heart and another thing as a parrot, isn´t it? I believe, I believe in God, I believe in Jesus Christ, I believe... I believe in what I say?
Is this confession of faith true or do I say it a little bit by heart, because it must be said? Or do I believe halfway? Confessing faith! All of it, not a part of it! All of it!...
We know how to ask God, how to thank God, but to worship God, to adore God is something else! Only he who has this strong faith is capable of worship...
To commend oneself.
The man or woman who has faith entrusts himself or herself to God: he or she entrusts himself or herself! Paul, in a dark moment of his life, said: "I know well to whom I have committed myself". To God. To the Lord Jesus. To commend oneself: and this leads us to hope. Just as the confession of faith leads us to adoration and praise of God, entrusting ourselves to God leads us to an attitude of hope.
There are so many Christians with a hope that is too watery, not strong: a weak hope. Why? Because they do not have the strength and courage to entrust themselves to the Lord.
But if we Christians believe by confessing our faith, and also by guarding our faith, and by entrusting ourselves to God, to the Lord, we will be victorious Christians. And this is the victory that has overcome the world: our faith!. (Daily Gospel reflection. Angelus, July 6, 2014)
The Pope´s daily quotation.
"Let us pray for the sick who are abandoned to death. A society is human if it protects life, all life, from its beginning to its natural end, without deciding who is worthy or not worthy of living. Let the doctors help life, not take it away". (Pope Francis, 07.10.2019)
Daily porpose.
I´ll examine my mistakes in my attitude towards others and I´ll aim to improve my behaviour by being quiet for about 15 minutes when I´m at home. I´ll do a little soul-searching for this.
