Daily Gospel, july 8, 2020. Reflection by Pope Francis. Matthew 10:1-7. Readings for wednesday. Holy Gospel reflection

Daily Gospel - Readings for july 8, 2020, wednesday. Pope Reflection.

Daily Gospel - Readings for july 8, 2020.

Reading for wednesday.

Hosea 10:1-3,7-8,12.

Israel was a luxuriant vine yielding plenty of fruit. The more his fruit increased, the more altars he built; the richer his land became, the richer he made the sacred stones. Their heart is a divided heart; very well, they must pay for it: the Lord is going to break their altars down and destroy their sacred stones. Then they will say, "We have no king because we have not feared the Lord." But what can a king do for us? Samaria has had her day. Her king is like a straw drifting on the water. The idolatrous high places shall be destroyed, that sin of Israel; thorn and thistle will grow on their altars. Then they will say to the mountains, "Cover us!" and to the hills, "Fall on us!" Sow integrity for yourselves, reap a harvest of kindness, break up your fallow ground: it is time to go seeking the Lord until he comes to rain salvation on you.

Daily Psalm for wednesday.

Psalm 104(105):2-7.

"Constantly seek the face of the Lord." (R).

O sing to the Lord, sing his praise; tell all his wonderful works! Be proud of his holy name, let the hearts that seek the Lord rejoice. (R).

Consider the Lord and his strength; constantly seek his face. Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, the judgements he spoke. (R).

O children of Abraham, his servant, O sons of the Jacob he chose. He, the Lord, is our God: his judgements prevail in all the earth. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

Alleluia, alleluia! By his own choice the Father made us his children by the message of the truth, so that we should be a sort of first-fruits of all that he created. Alleluia!" (Cfr. James 1:18)

Daily Gospel for july 8. Matthew 10:1-7.

#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for wednesday, july 8 (The election and mission of the twelve Apostles): "At that time Jesus called his twelve disciples together and gave them power to cast out unclean spirits and to heal any disease or sickness. The names of the twelve Apostles are: first, Simon, nicknamed Peter, and his brother Andrew; then, James, son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew, the publican; James, son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; Simon, the Canaanite, and Judas Iscariot, the same who delivered him up. These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: "Do not go into the pagan regions, nor enter any city of the Samaritans. Go instead to the lost sheep of the people of Israel. On your way, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is near".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

In the reading of the daily Gospel, we observe that, after the prayer, Jesus chooses the twelve Apostles. The Lord says it clearly: "It was not you who chose me. It is I who have chosen you".

This second moment gives us courage: "I am chosen, I am a choice of the Lord. On the day of my baptism he has chosen me. And Paul, thinking of this, said: "He chose me from my mother´s womb". Therefore, we Christians have been chosen:

These are the things of love. Love does not see whether one has an ugly face or a beautiful face: it loves. And Jesus does the same: he loves and chooses with love. And he chooses everyone! He, in the list, has no one important, between quotes, according to the criteria of the world: he is common people.

There are ordinary people. But they have one thing, yes, it must be stressed, that they are all sinners. Jesus has chosen sinners. He chooses sinners. And this is the accusation that the doctors of the law, the scribes, make against him:

"This man goes to eat with sinners, talks to prostitutes..."

Jesus calls everyone. Do we remember the parable of the son´s wedding: when the guests didn´t come? What did the master of the house do? He sends his servants: "Go and bring them all home! Good and bad," says the Gospel. Jesus has chosen everyone.

Jesus is close to the people. Many people are going to listen to him and be healed of their illnesses. The whole crowd tried to touch Him because from Him came out a strength that healed everybody.

Jesus is in the midst of his people. He is not a professor, a teacher, a mystic who goes away from the people and speaks from the chair, from there. No, he is in the midst of the people; he lets himself be touched; he lets the people ask him. This is what Jesus is like: close to the people.

This is our Master, this is our Lord. He is one who prays, one who chooses the people and one who is not ashamed to be close to the people. And this gives us confidence in Him.

We entrust ourselves to Him because He prays, because He has chosen us and because He is close to us. (Daily Gospel reflection. Saint Martha, September 9, 2014)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"The way of Jesus, which leads to peace, passes through forgiveness; for no evil resolves another evil, no resentment is good for the heart." (Pope Francis, 08.7.2019)
