Holy Daily Gospel - Readings for thursday, july 9, 2020. Reflection by Pope Francis. Matthew 10:7-15. Daily reflection for holy Gospel

Daily Gospel - Readings for july 9, 2020, thursday. Pope Reflection.

Daily Gospel - Readings for july 9, 2020.

Reading for thursday.

Hosea 11:1-4,8-9.

Thus says the Lord: When Israel was a child I loved him, and I called my son out of Egypt. But the more I called to them, the further they went from me; they have offered sacrifice to the Baals and set their offerings smoking before the idols. I myself taught Ephraim to walk, I took them in my arms; yet they have not understood that I was the one looking after them. I led them with reins of kindness, with leading-strings of love. I was like someone who lifts an infant close against his cheek; stooping down to him I gave him his food. Ephraim, how could I part with you? Israel, how could I give you up? How could I treat you like Admah, or deal with you like Zeboiim? My heart recoils from it, my whole being trembles at the thought. I will not give rein to my fierce anger, I will not destroy Ephraim again, for I am God, not man: I am the Holy One in your midst and have no wish to destroy.

Daily Psalm for thursday.

Psalm 79(80):2-3,15-16

"Let your face shine on us, O Lord, and we shall be saved." (R).

O shepherd of Israel, hear us, shine forth from your cherubim throne. O Lord, rouse up your might, O Lord, come to our help. (R).

God of hosts, turn again, we implore, look down from heaven and see. Visit this vine and protect it, the vine your right hand has planted. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Harden not your hearts today, but listen to the voice of the Lord. Alleluia!." (Cfr. Psalm 94:8)

Daily Gospel for july 9. Matthew 10:7-15.

#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for thursday, july 9 (The election and mission of the twelve Apostles): "At that time, Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: "As you go, proclaim that the kingdom of heaven is close at hand. Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out devils. You received without charge, give without charge. Provide yourselves with no gold or silver, not even with a few coppers for your purses, with no haversack for the journey or spare tunic or footwear or a staff, for the workman deserves his keep. "Whatever town or village you go into, ask for someone trustworthy and stay with him until you leave. As you enter his house, salute it, and if the house deserves it, let your peace descend upon it; if it does not, let your peace come back to you. And if anyone does not welcome you or listen to what you have to say, as you walk out of the house or town shake the dust from your feet. I tell you solemnly, on the day of Judgement it will not go as hard with the land of Sodom and Gomorrah as with that town.".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

In the reading of the daily Gospel, we analyze the words of Jesus: "Give freely what you have received freely". We are called to serve and love our brothers and sisters in the same way that God has done with us. Christians cannot remain stationary, since our way of life drives us to go out into the street, always.

Jesus has already given us our mission: "As you go, make this proclamation, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons."

The Christian life is for service. We are saddened to find Christians who at the beginning of their conversion, or of their awareness of being Christians, serve and are open to serving God´s people, but who then end up making use of God´s people. This causes much harm to the people of God. Our vocation is "to serve", not "to make use of".

The Christian life is lived freely. "Without cost you have received; without cost you must give," was how Jesus described the core of salvation. Salvation cannot be bought, because God saves us freely and requires no payment. As God has done with us, so must we do with others. And this gratuitousness of God is one of the most beautiful things.

Realize that the Lord is full of gifts for us. He asks only one thing: that our hearts be open. When we say "Our Father" and pray, we open our hearts, allowing this gratuity to enter. Often, when we need some spiritual grace, we say: "Well, now I will fast, do penance, pray a novena..." Good, but be careful: this is not done to "pay" or "buy" grace. We do it to open our hearts so that grace may enter. Grace is given freely.

All God´s gifts are given without cost. And sometimes the heart folds up on itself and remains closed, and is no longer able to receive such free love.

We must not bargain with God. Christians, and especially pastors and bishops, should give freely and not try to sell God´s graces. Our hearts ache when we see pastors making money with God´s grace: "I can help you, but it will cost you so much..."

In our spiritual life we always run the risk of failing to pay, even when we talk to the Lord, as if we needed to bribe the Lord. No! That´s not the right way... I make a promise, to expand my heart to receive what is already there, waiting for us freely.

This relationship of gratuitousness with God is what will help us to have the same relationship with others, whether in Christian witness, in Christian service or in the pastoral care of those who lead God´s people. We do this along the way. Christian life means walking. Preach and serve, but don´t use others. Serve and give freely what you have freely received.

May our life of holiness be imbued with this openness of heart, so that God´s gratuitousness, the graces He wants to give us without cost, may enter our hearts. (Daily Gospel reflection. Saint Martha. June 11, 2019)

Daily Gospel Prayer.

O my God, You are present in each of my situations, both in good times and bad, always guiding and directing my path. There is so much that overwhelms me today. Neither the wisdom of the world nor my own understanding has been able to bring me to the place of peace I so desire. O my Lord, help me to surrender to You every decision, every confusion in which I cannot discern any way out. I want to follow You alone because from You come all the blessings with which You bring forth all Your children. Help me to listen attentively to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter. May I never lose sight of you. May Your Word soak into my heart that I will not find attachments in any of the world´s distractions. May that Word of Life penetrate to the depths of my heart and I may receive all the benefits of knowing You. Amen.

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Only when we experience God´s forgiveness are we truly reborn. Forgiveness allows us to begin again; there we find ourselves: in the confession of our sins". (Pope Francis, 13.08.2019)
