Daily Gospel - Readings for july 12, 2020, sunday. Pope Reflection.

Daily Gospel - Readings for july 12, 2020.

Reading for sunday. Daily gospel

Isaiah 55:10-11

Thus says the Lord: "As the rain and the snow come down from the heavens and do not return without watering the earth, making it yield and giving growth to provide seed for the sower and bread for the eating, so the word that goes from my mouth does not return to me empty, without carrying out my will and succeeding in what it was sent to do."

Daily Psalm for sunday.

Psalm 64(65):10-14

"Some seed fell into rich soil and produced its crop." (R).

You care for the earth, give it water, you fill it with riches. Your river in heaven brims over to provide its grain.

And thus you provide for the earth; you drench its furrows; you level it, soften it with showers; you bless its growth.

You crown the year with your goodness. Abundance flows in your steps, in the pastures of the wilderness it flows.

The hills are girded with joy, the meadows covered with flocks, the valleys are decked with wheat. They shout for joy, yes, they sing.

Second reading for July 12.

Romans 8:18-23

I think that what we suffer in this life can never be compared to the glory, as yet unrevealed, which is waiting for us. The whole creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal his sons. It was not for any fault on the part of creation that it was made unable to attain its purpose, it was made so by God; but creation still retains the hope of being freed, like us, from its slavery to decadence, to enjoy the same freedom and glory as the children of God. From the beginning till now the entire creation, as we know, has been groaning in one great act of giving birth; and not only creation, but all of us who possess the first-fruits of the Spirit, we too groan inwardly as we wait for our bodies to be set free.

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! The seed is the word of God, Christ the sower; whoever finds this seed will remain for ever. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Jn 6:68)

Daily Gospel for july 12. Matthew 13:1-23.

Daily Gospel reading for sunday, july 12 (Jesus explains the parable of the sower to his disciples): "At that time, Jesus left the house and sat by the lakeside, but such large crowds gathered round him that he got into a boat and sat there. The people all stood on the beach, and he told them many things in parables. He said, "Imagine a sower going out to sow. As he sowed, some seeds fell on the edge of the path, and the birds came and ate them up. Others fell on patches of rock where they found little soil and sprang up straight away, because there was no depth of earth; but as soon as the sun came up they were scorched and, not having any roots, they withered away. Others fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked them. Others fell on rich soil and produced their crop, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. Listen, anyone who has ears!" Then the disciples went up to him and asked, "Why do you talk to them in parables?" "Because" he replied, "the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven are revealed to you, but they are not revealed to them. For anyone who has will be given more, and he will have more than enough; but from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. The reason I talk to them in parables is that they look without seeing and listen without hearing or understanding. So in their case this prophecy of Isaiah is being fulfilled: You will listen and listen again, but not understand, see and see again, but not perceive. For the heart of this nation has grown coarse, their ears are dull of hearing, and they have shut their eyes, for fear they should see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their heart, and be converted and be healed by me. "But happy are your eyes because they see, your ears because they hear! I tell you solemnly, many prophets and holy men longed to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it. "You, therefore, are to hear the parable of the sower. When anyone hears the word of the kingdom without understanding, the evil one comes and carries off what was sown in his heart: this is the man who received the seed on the edge of the path. The one who received it on patches of rock is the man who hears the word and welcomes it at once with joy. But he has no root in him, he does not last; let some trial come, or some persecution on account of the word, and he falls away at once. The one who received the seed in thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this world and the lure of riches choke the word and so he produces nothing. And the one who received the seed in rich soil is the man who hears the word and understands it; he is the one who yields a harvest and produces now a hundredfold, now sixty, now thirty."".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

The sower is Jesus. With this image, we can see that he presents himself as someone who does not impose himself, but offers himself. He does not attract us by conquering us, but by giving himself: he throws seeds. With patience and generosity, he spreads his Word, which is not a cage or a trap, but a seed that can bear fruit. And how can it bear fruit? If we welcome it.

Therefore, In the reading of the daily Gospel, we observe that, the parable especially concerns us. In fact, it speaks more about the earth than about the sower. Jesus makes, so to speak, a "spiritual x-ray" of our heart, which is the soil on which the seed of the Word falls. Our heart, like the soil, can be good and then the Word bears fruit, and a lot, but it can also be hard and impermeable. This happens when we hear the Word but it bounces off us, as if on a street: it does not enter.

Between the good soil and the street; the asphalt, if we throw a seed on the "sanpietrini" (paving stones), nothing grows, but there are two intermediate types of soil that, in different quantities, we can have inside us. The first, Jesus says, is rocky. Let us try to imagine it: the rocky soil is a soil that "does not have much soil" (cf. Mt 13:5), so the seed sprouts but is unable to take deep roots. Such is the superficial heart: it welcomes the Lord, it wants to pray, love and bear witness, but it does not persevere; it gets tired and never "takes off". It is a heart without depth, where the rocks of laziness prevail over the good soil, where love is fickle and fleeting. But he who welcomes the Lord only when he wants to, does not bear fruit.

Then there is the last soil, the thorny one, full of brambles that choke the good plants. What do these thorns represent? "The care of the world and the delight of riches" (v. 22), as Jesus explicitly says. The thorns are the vices that come to blow with God, that drown out his presence: they are above all the idols of worldly wealth, that live avidly, for themselves, for possessions and for power. If we cultivate these thorns, we drown out the growth of God within us. Each one of us can recognize his big or small thorns, the vices that dwell in the heart, those more or less deep-rooted brambles that God does not like and that hinder us from having a clean heart. They must be plucked, otherwise the word cannot bear fruit, the seed will not grow.

Dear brothers and sisters, Jesus invites us today to look inside ourselves: to give thanks for our good soil and to take care of the soil that is not yet good. Let us ask ourselves if our heart is open to receive the seed of the Word of God with faith. Let us ask ourselves if our rocks of laziness are still numerous and large; let us identify our thorns of vice and call them by their name. Let us find the courage to reclaim the earth, to bring about a beautiful conversion of heart, bringing our rocks and thorns to the Lord in Confession and prayer. In doing this, Jesus, the Good Sower will be happy to carry out an additional task: to purify our hearts by removing the rocks and thorns that choke His Word.

May the Mother of God, whom we remember today by the title of the Blessed Virgin of Mount Carmel, unparalleled in her acceptance and practice of the Word of God (cf. Lk 8:21), help us to purify our hearts and to welcome the Lord´s presence in them. (Daily Gospel reflection. Angelus. July 16,2017)

Daily Gospel Prayer.

Lord, come into my life now and fill me with that peace my heart longs for, so that I can face everything from the perspective of your love. Do not let me be filled with fear. Take away from my mind all that worries me while giving me the strength to get through the difficulty. I know that I am very precious to you and you will not allow anything bad to happen to me. Send your Holy Angels to protect me on my way and make me appreciate the wonders of your Presence. Come with your Holy Spirit and heal my inner self. Prepare me to be a sower of hope and to continue steadfast in my struggles to attain my salvation and that of my people. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Let us ask for the grace to remember every day that God does not forget us, that we are his beloved, unique and irreplaceable children: remembering this gives us the strength not to give up in the face of life´s setbacks. (Pope Francis, 08.14.2019)
