Daily Gospel - Readings for july 2, 2020, thursday,. Pope Reflection.

Daily Gospel - Readings for July 2, 2020.

Reading for thursday.

Amós 7:10-17.

In those days, Amaziah, priest of the House of God, sent a message to Jeroboam, king of Israel: "Amos conspires against you in the midst of Israel; the land can no longer bear his words. For thus Amos preaches: "Jeroboam shall die by the sword. Israel shall go out of his land into exile." Amaziah said to Amos, "Seer, go and take refuge in the land of Judah; eat your bread there and prophesy there. Prophesy no more in the house of God, for it is the royal sanctuary, the temple of the land." Amos said, "I am neither prophet nor son of a prophet, but a shepherd and a grower of figs. The Lord brought me out of the flock and said, "Go and prophesy to my people of Israel." And now listen to the word of the Lord: You say: "Do not prophesy against the house of Israel, do not preach against the house of Isaac." Well, thus says the Lord: "Your wife will be dishonored in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, your land will be divided by the line, you will die in a heathen land, Israel will go out of her country into exile."

Daily Psalm for thursday.

Psalm 18(19):8-11.

"The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just". (R).

The law of the Lord is perfect, it revives the soul. The rule of the Lord is to be trusted, it gives wisdom to the simple.(R).

The precepts of the Lord are right, they gladden the heart. The command of the Lord is clear, it gives light to the eyes. (R).

The fear of the Lord is holy, abiding for ever. The decrees of the Lord are truth and all of them just. (R).

They are more to be desired than gold, than the purest of gold and sweeter are they than honey, than honey from the comb. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Blessed are you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for revealing the mysteries of the kingdom to mere children. Alleluia!" (Cfr. Mt 11:25)

Daily Gospel for july 2. Matthew 9:1-8

#dailygospel Daily Gospel reading for thursday, July 2 (Jesus cures a paralytic by forgiving his sins): "At that time, Jesus got into the boat, crossed the water and came to his own village. Then some people appeared and brought him a paralytic lying on a bed. Seeing his faith, Jesus said to the paralytic, "Courage, my son, your sins are forgiven. Then some of the scribes said to themselves, "This man is blaspheming". Knowing what was in their minds, Jesus said, "Why do you have such evil thoughts in your hearts? Now, which of these is easier to say, "Your sins are forgiven," or to say, "Get up and walk"? But to prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins, (he said to the paralytic), "get up, take up your bed, and go home. And the man got up and went home. A feeling of awe came over the crowd when they saw this, and they praised God for giving such power to men".

Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.

The freedom of the children of God is the fruit of reconciliation with the Father, carried out by Jesus who took upon himself the sins of all mankind and redeemed the world with his death on the Cross. No one can take away this identity from us.

In the daily Gospel reading for today, we observe all the feelings that must have shocked the paralytic when, while he was being carried in his bed, he heard Jesus tell him "Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven".

Those who were close to Jesus and heard his words said, "this man is blaspheming; only God can forgive sins. And Jesus, to make them understand, asked them, "Which is easier, to forgive sins or to heal? Jesus, said St. Peter, went about doing good, healing everything".

But when Jesus healed a sick person, he was not only a healer. When he taught people, let us think of the Beatitudes, he was not only a catechist, a preacher of morality. When he protested against the hypocrisy of the Pharisees and Sadducees, he was not a revolutionary who wanted to expel the Romans. No, these things that Jesus did, healing, teaching, and speaking out against hypocrisy, were only a sign of something greater that Jesus was doing: "he was forgiving sins.

To reconcile the world in Christ in the name of the Father: this is Jesus´ mission. Everything else: healing, teaching, rebuking, are only signs of that deeper miracle which is the re-creation of the world. Thus, reconciliation is the re-creation of the world; and the deepest mission of Jesus is the redemption of all of us sinners. And Jesus did not do it with words, with actions or by walking the road, no! He did it with his flesh. It is truly he, God, who becomes one of us, a man, to heal us from within.

It will do us good to think about this, and to think that it is so beautiful to be children. This freedom of children is so beautiful, because the Son is at home. Jesus has opened the doors of his house for us, now we are at home. Now we understand the words of Jesus: "Cheer up, my son, your sins are forgiven. This is the root of our courage: I am free, I am a child, the Father loves me and I love the Father. Let us ask the Lord for the grace to understand his action correctly. (Daily Gospel reflection, St. Martha. July 4, 2013)

The Pope´s daily quotation.

"Evil never gives peace. It causes frenzy first then leaves bitterness. Instead, God´s voice never promises cheap, easily acquired joy. He invites us to go beyond our ego to find that true good: peace.".
(07.01.2019 - Pope Francis @pontifex)

Daily porpose.

We all need healing, none of us are perfect. Knowing this fragility will lead you to humility. Say a prayer for healing for all those who need it. Be you, an intercessor like those friends of the paralytic.
