Daily Readings for Tuesday - Daily prayer, December 1, 2020.

Daily Readings for the Holy Gospel, December 1, 2020. Reflection on daily Gospel of Luke 10:21-24 - Let us meditate through the Pope´s reflections to Holy Gospel. "God wants the best from each of us. He is attentive to our needs. He alone can give us peace and serenity in the midst of storms". Daily Readings and the daily Prayer for your life to get serenity and inner peace on the first Tuesday of Advent.

Serenity prayer for December 1.

Lord, you know that many times I get lost on the wrong paths because of my fears and insecurities. I cannot focus my attention on you, who are the source of wisdom. Therefore, today I ask you to give me much peace, to make me feel your love, so I can feel calm and with the necessary strength to move forward. Amen.

These are the daily readings for Tuesday of the 1st week of Advent.

Readings for Tuesday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Isaiah 11:1-10: "The root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the nations".

A shoot springs from the stock of Jesse, a scion thrusts from his roots: on him the spirit of the Lord rests, a spirit of wisdom and insight, a spirit of counsel and power, a spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord. (The fear of the Lord is his breath.) He does not judge by appearances, he gives no verdict on hearsay, but judges the wretched with integrity, and with equity gives a verdict for the poor of the land. His word is a rod that strikes the ruthless, his sentences bring death to the wicked. Integrity is the loincloth round his waist, faithfulness the belt about his hips. The wolf lives with the lamb, the panther lies down with the kid, calf and lion feed together, with a little boy to lead them. The cow and the bear make friends, their young lie down together. The lion eats straw like the ox. The infant plays over the cobra’s hole; into the viper’s lair the young child puts his hand. They do no hurt, no harm, on all my holy mountain, for the country is filled with the knowledge of the Lord as the waters swell the sea. That day, the root of Jesse shall stand as a signal to the peoples. It will be sought out by the nations and its home will be glorious.

Daily Psalm for Tuesday.

Psalm 71(72):1-2,7-8,12-13,17: "In his days justice shall flourish, and peace till the moon fails." (R).

  • O God, give your judgement to the king, to a king’s son your justice, that he may judge your people in justice and your poor in right judgement. (R).
  • In his days justice shall flourish and peace till the moon fails. He shall rule from sea to sea, from the Great River to earth’s bounds. (R).
  • For he shall save the poor when they cry and the needy who are helpless. He will have pity on the weak and save the lives of the poor. (R).
  • May his name be blessed for ever and endure like the sun. Every tribe shall be blessed in him, all nations bless his name. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Let us see, O Lord, your mercy and give us your saving help. Alleluia" (Daily readings for today extracted of Psalm 84:8.)

Daily Gospel for December 1. Luke 10:21-24.

Daily readings Tuesday, Gospel for December 1 (The Gospel has been revealed to the humble): At that time, Filled with joy by the Holy Spirit, Jesus said: "I bless you, Father, Lord of heaven and of earth, for hiding these things from the learned and the clever and revealing them to mere children. Yes, Father, for that is what it pleased you to do. Everything has been entrusted to me by my Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him." Then turning to his disciples he spoke to them in private, "Happy the eyes that see what you see, for I tell you that many prophets and kings wanted to see what you see, and never saw it; to hear what you hear, and never heard it.". (The daily readings and the Holy Gospel, on this page, are from the Jerusalem Bible)

Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"Pope Francis: God´s love liberates and heals."

In the daily Readings, we observe that Jesus was filled with joy in the Holy Spirit, addressing the Father and glorifying him. This moment of profound joy springs from Jesus´ deep love as Son for his Father, Lord of heaven and earth, who has hidden these things from the wise and the clever and revealed them to little ones.

God has hidden and revealed, and in this prayer of praise the revealing stands out. What has god revealed and hidden? The mysteries of His kingdom, the assertion of divine lordship in Jesus, and the victory over Satan. God has hidden everything from those who are too full of themselves and claim to know everything already. They are blinded by their presumption and leave no room for God.

One can easily think of some of Jesus´ contemporaries, whom he himself admonished on several occasions, but this is a danger that has always existed, and which affects us as well.

On the other hand, the "little ones" are the humble, the simple, the poor, the marginalized, the voiceless, those who are tired and oppressed, those whom Jesus has called "blessed.

(...) "Yes, Father because it has pleased you". Jesus´ words must be understood with reference to his inner joy, where benevolence indicates a saving and benevolent plan of the Father towards men.

(...) Jesus, seeing the success of the mission of his disciples and therefore their joy, rejoices in the Holy Spirit and turns to his Father in prayer. In both cases, it is a joy for salvation that is realized because the love with which the Father loves the Son reaches out to us, and through the work of the Holy Spirit, envelops us, brings us into the life of the Trinity.

The Father is the source of joy. The Son is its manifestation, and the Holy Spirit is the animator. Immediately after praising the Father, Jesus invites us: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."

The joy of the Gospel fills the heart and the whole life of those who meet Jesus. Those who allow themselves to be saved by him are freed from sin, from sadness, from inner emptiness, from isolation. With Jesus Christ, joy is always born and reborn. (Daily Readings reflection, Pope´s message for World Mission Day 2014.).
