Daily Readings for the Holy Gospel, November 26, 2020. Reflection on daily Gospel of Luke 21,20-28 - Let us meditate through the Pope´s reflections to Holy Gospel. "We must await the coming of the Lord with faith and hope, maintaining joy at all times and filling ourselves with joy when the righteousness of God is realized". Serenity prayer for November 26.

Lord God, I love you and trust that now as I prepare for this day, you will bless me and make me ready to face the challenges that will come my way. I trust in your power and mercy over me and my loved ones. Amen.

These are the daily readings for Thursday of the 34th Week in Ordinary Time.

Readings for Thursday.

First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Apocalypse 18:1-2,21-23,19:1-3,9: "Babylon the great, will fall".

I, John, saw an angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earth was lit up with his glory. At the top of his voice he shouted, "Babylon has fallen, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has become the haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird." Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great millstone, and as he hurled it into the sea, he said, "That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again. Never again in you, Babylon, will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet; never again will craftsmen of every skill be found or the sound of the mill be heard; never again will shine the light of the lamp, never again will be heard the voices of bridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, all the nations were under your spell". After this I seemed to hear the great sound of a huge crowd in heaven, singing, "Alleluia! Victory and glory and power to our God! He judges fairly, he punishes justly, and he has condemned the famous prostitute who corrupted the earth with her fornication; he has avenged his servants that she killed." They sang again, "Alleluia! The smoke of her will go up for ever and ever." The angel said, "Write this: Happy are those who are invited to the wedding feast of the Lamb", and he added, "All the things you have written are true messages from God."

Daily Psalm for Thursday.

Psalm 99(100):2-5: "Happy are those who are invited to the wedding-feast of the Lamb." (R).

  • Serve the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing for joy. (R).
  • Know that he, the Lord, is God. He made us, we belong to him, we are his people, the sheep of his flock. (R).
  • Go within his gates, giving thanks. Enter his courts with songs of praise. Give thanks to him and bless his name. (R).
  • Indeed, how good is the Lord, eternal his merciful love. He is faithful from age to age. (R).

Daily Gospel Acclamation.

"Alleluia, alleluia! Stay awake and stand ready because you do not know the hour when the Son of Man is coming. Alleluia!" (Daily readings for today extracted of Mt 24,42.44.)

Daily Gospel for November 26. Luke 21,20-28.

Daily readings Thursday, Gospel for November 26 (The glorious manifestation of the Son of God): "At that time, Jesus said to his disciples, "When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, you must realise that she will soon be laid desolate. Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it. For this is the time of vengeance when all that scripture says must be fulfilled. Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come! "For great misery will descend on the land and wrath on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every pagan country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the pagans until the age of the pagans is completely over. "There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the clamour of the ocean and its waves; men dying of fear as they await what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken. And then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high because your liberation is near at hand.". (The daily readings and the Holy Gospel, on this page, are from the Jerusalem Bible)

Daily Readings reflection, by Pope Francis.

"Pope Francis: Waiting in faith for the coming of the Lord."

In the daily Readings, we see that Christian hope is not just a wish, an expectation, it is not optimism: for a Christian, hope is waiting, fervent waiting, passionate about the ultimate and definitive fulfillment of a mystery, the mystery of God´s love in which we have been reborn and in which we already live.

That hope of someone who is about to arrive: it is Christ the Lord who is coming closer to us, day after day, and who is finally coming to introduce us to the fullness of his communion and peace.

The Church therefore has the task of keeping the lamp of hope burning and clearly visible, so that it may continue to shine as a sure sign of salvation and may illuminate for all humanity the path that leads to an encounter with the merciful face of God.

Dear brothers and sisters, this is what we are waiting for: Jesus´ return. The Church as bride awaits her bridegroom. Through daily reading, however, we must ask ourselves with great sincerity, are we really luminous and credible witnesses of this expectation, of this hope? Do our communities still live in the sign of the presence of the Lord Jesus and in the ardent expectation of his coming, or do they appear tired, hindered, under the weight of fatigue and resignation? Do we too risk exhausting the oil of faith, of joy? Let us be attentive

Let us invoke the Virgin Mary, Mother of Hope and Queen of Heaven, so that she may always keep us in an attitude of listening and waiting, to be already pierced by the love of Christ and one day be part of the endless joy, in the full communion of God. (Daily Readings reflection, Angelus, October 15, 2014.).

Daily Prayer Thursday, for Gospel.

Lord, you make me see that, in the midst of so many tribulations, your Word gives comfort and joy. You make me feel that the day of Your return, when even the stars of heaven will be moved, will not be a day of perdition for me. You ask only one thing of me: to remain faithful to You. With Your hope does not die. You will be my liberator and you will be my Lord and Savior forever. Amen. (Healing with the serenity prayer for daily readings and Holy Gospel)
