Daily prayer for September 14.
My Lord, You know everything about me, You know my fears, anxieties and worries. You also know that I want to leave behind my life of sin, vices and attachments that harm my relationship with You. Enlighten my life with the light of your Spirit. Give me strength to go forward. Lead me through the still waters of your love. You are my refuge. You are the one who helps me to overcome difficulties. Bless me now and forever. Amen
Reading for Monday. Daily gospel
First Reading for daily Gospel: Reading from the book of Numbers 21:4-9.
On the way through the wilderness the people lost patience. They spoke against God and against Moses, "Why did you bring us out of Egypt to die in this wilderness? For there is neither bread nor water here; we are sick of this unsatisfying food." At this God sent fiery serpents among the people; their bite brought death to many in Israel. The people came and said to Moses, "We have sinned by speaking against the Lord and against you. Intercede for us with the Lord to save us from these serpents." Moses interceded for the people, and the Lord answered him, "Make a fiery serpent and put it on a standard. If anyone is bitten and looks at it, he shall live." So Moses fashioned a bronze serpent which he put on a standard, and if anyone was bitten by a serpent, he looked at the bronze serpent and lived.
Daily Psalm for Monday.
Psalm 77(78):1-2,34-38.
"Never forget the deeds of the Lord." (R).
Give heed, my people, to my teaching; turn your ear to the words of my mouth. I will open my mouth in a parable and reveal hidden lessons of the past. (R).
When he slew them then they would seek him, return and seek him in earnest. They would remember that God was their rock, God the Most High their redeemer. (R).
But the words they spoke were mere flattery; they lied to him with their lips. For their hearts were not truly with him; they were not faithful to his covenant. (R).
Yet he who is full of compassion forgave them their sin and spared them. So often he held back his anger when he might have stirred up his rage. (R).
Second reading for September 14.
Philippians 2:6-11.
"Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of [things] in heaven, and [things] in earth, and [things] under the earth; And [that] every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ [is] Lord, to the glory of God the Father.".
Daily Gospel Acclamation.
"Alleluia, alleluia! We adore you, O Christ, and we bless you; because by your cross you have redeemed the world. Alleluia!"
Daily Gospel for September 14. John 3:13-17.
Daily Gospel reading for Monday, September 14 (The exaltation of the Son of Man on top of the Cross): "At that time, Jesus said to Nicodemus: "No one has gone up to heaven except the one who came down from heaven, the Son of Man who is in heaven; and the Son of Man must be lifted up as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him. Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life. For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world might be saved." ".
Daily Gospel reflection by Pope Francis.
"There is no Christianity without the Cross."
The reading of the daily Gospel, the Lord in the desert commands Moses to make a snake and put it on a pole, and tells him that whoever is bitten by snakes and looks at it will remain alive.
But what is the serpent? The serpent is the sign of sin, as we already see in the Book of Genesis when the serpent seduced Eve, proposing sin to her. And God commands that sin be raised as a banner of victory. What is not well understood if we do not understand what Jesus tells us in the Gospel. Jesus says to the Jews: "When they have lifted up the Son of man, they will know that I am he.
Therefore, sin arose in the desert, but it is a sin that seeks salvation, because it heals there. The one who is lifted up now is the Son of man, the true Savior, Jesus Christ.
(...) Christianity is a person, an elevated person, on the Cross, a person who has thrown himself away to save us; he has become sin. And so, as the daily Gospel says, as in the desert sin was lifted up, here God has been lifted up, made man and made sin for us. And all our sins were there.
(...) There is no Christianity without the Cross, and there is no Cross without Jesus Christ. The heart of God´s salvation is His Son, who took upon Himself all our sins, our pride, our securities, our vanities, our desire to become like God.
This is why a Christian who does not know how to glory in Christ crucified has not understood what it means to be a Christian. Our wounds, those that sin leaves in us, are only healed with the wounds of the Lord, with the wounds of God made man, humiliated, annihilated. "And this is the mystery of the Cross.
Through the daily Gospel, we know that the Cross is not an ornament that we should always put in the churches, on the altar, there. It is not a symbol that distinguishes us from others.
The Cross is the mystery, it is the mystery of God´s love, which humbles itself, becomes NOTHING, becomes sin. Where is your sin? "I don´t know, I have so many here. No, your sin is there, on the Cross. Go and find it there, in the wounds of the Lord, your sin will be healed, your wounds will be healed, your sin will be forgiven.
The forgiveness God gives us is not to cancel an account we have with Him: the forgiveness God gives us is the wounds of his Son on the Cross, lifted up on the Cross. (Daily Gospel reflection, St. Martha, April 8, 2014)
Daily Prayer for Gospel.
O God of love and peace, You who are always ready to fill our hearts with strength and heal our wounds, I ask You today to renew my desire to make You part of my daily life. May your Holy Cross be the beacon that illuminates my paths. Help me to understand that mystery of love with which you have given me eternal salvation. I want to place my sorrows at the foot of your Cross, knowing that in it I can find healing and solutions to all my situations. May I rest in your Presence. I feel calm now, I feel my life filled with trust through the strength of your Cross. By the power of your Holy Spirit, I pray that you will welcome me with compassion. May I keep peace always in my heart. You are my God, in whom I trust. Amen. (Healing with prayer daily gospel)
